15 Ways to Share Digital Files with Elementary Students One of the most common questions I receive is on the topic of sharing files with students. In the computer lab a lot of the work our students do requires a template. They are learning to use software programs and it is really helpful when the assignment is set up for them step by step as a template in the program about which they are learning. This means we need to be able to share files with them quickly and easily. We don't need yet another hurdle to completing the assignment.I polled the Technology Teacher Tribe Facebook Group and these were their top ways of sharing files with students: 15 Ways to Share Digital Files with Elementary Students Google ClassroomServer with Network FolderPadlet for younger studentsWebsiteScreen monitoring systemEmail students a "copy" linkSchoologyOneNote and TeamsDropboxBitlyAirDropNearpodClassflowSymbalooSeesaw In this blog post I'll expand on some of them. As we get ready for Thanksgiving break, our technology and library group are getting ready to kick off something super exciting and new at Van Meter! We now have Merge Goggles, along with devices, to use with our K-12 students. Yesterday as we were planning the upcoming AR/VR professional development session with our teachers, this got us thinking how we could find, integrate and use amazing resources right away. And we will be using one from the Quiver Coloring pack, the super funny Turkey Mask, that you can find here, during our collaborative related arts project on Monday and Tuesday. In the library this last week and several of the classrooms, we focused on the book, Balloons Over Braodway....The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade by Melissa Sweet. Showbie Review for Teachers If used strategically, Showbie can be a great way to support and organize classroom learning. There's a nice mix of built-in features for offering feedback: You can type or draw to offer written feedback, or you can record audio and pin it to a student's assignment. Showbie also stands out for its flexibility. It's useful that you can submit assignments from dozens of iPad apps (from Google Drive and Dropbox to Explain Everything), and it's nice for teachers and students alike that you can access Showbie well on a desktop or a mobile device. The only point of concern with Showbie is that its free version is so much less powerful than the pro version. Tools for Scheduling Parent-Teacher Conferences and Other Meetings The end of the first quarter or third of the school year is almost here for many of us. That means it's time for parent-teacher conferences. At my school, we have to schedule those meetings with parents. Based on the questions I've seen in my inbox this week, my school isn't the only one that requires teachers to set conference times. I use the appointment slots feature in Google Calendar to set my schedule and let parents sign-up, but that's not the only way it can be done. JotFormJotForm is a good alternative to Google Forms and Microsoft Forms. Choice Eliminator 2This is a Google Forms add-on that will remove answer choices from a question as they get used up. A known quirk of Choice Eliminator 2 is that there is a lag between when a choice is made and when it actually gets eliminated. Calendly The free version of Calendly will let you easily create appointment slots with just a click or two. Here's how to combine Google Calendar appointment slots with Zoom and Google Classroom.
