XLD From Hydrogenaudio Knowledgebase link title X Lossless Decoder(XLD) is a secure CD ripper and a tool for Mac OS X that is able to decode/convert/play most lossless and lossy audio files. The supported audio files can be encoded/decoded and split into tracks with cue sheet. XLD is Universal Binary, so it runs natively on both Intel Macs and PPC Macs. [edit] Features XLD supports the following formats: (Ogg) FLAC (.flac/.ogg) Monkey's Audio (.ape) Wavpack (.wv) TTA (.tta) Apple Lossless (.m4a) [10.4 and later] AIFF, WAV, etc LAME MP3, QuickTime AAC, HE-AAC, and Opus. Other formats supported by Libsndfile are also decodable. Currently you can choose output format from WAVE,AIFF and Raw PCM. XLD version 20080812 and later can be used as a CD ripper. [edit] Correction mechanism XLD (X Lossless Decoder) uses the cdparanoia 10.2 libaries ripping and error correcting. [edit] Known Bugs The source code of XLD is included in the StuffIT light expander archive. [edit] Plug-ins [edit] Source code

Bits is Bits? High-quality digital audio systems require that all digital interfaces in the signal path exhibit signal transparency. The widely adopted AES/EBU and S/PDIF interfaces have been criticized for a lack of signal transparency; here we (footnote 1) address possible problems with such interfaces and present methods for improving the interface standard. In a correctly functioning (uniformly quantized and sampled) digital audio system, the only observable signal impairments should be attributable to band-limitation and an additive noise residue. Thus, although digital audio's subjective sound quality has been criticized since the launch of the Compact Disc medium 13 years ago, the theoretical performance obtainable from the 16-bit linear PCM format sampled at 44.1kHz is superb to any analog sources available to the consumer. When correctly dithered using triangular PDF dither, a 16-bit digital audio signal possesses a dynamic range of 93.3dB, with zero distortion and zero noise modulation.

How To Use Google Search As An Online Timer Learn about a simple search command that will let you use Google as an online timer to help you remind of any upcoming tasks. Use Google as an Online Timer Do you need a simple timer to remind you of upcoming tasks like picking up the laundary, making that phone call to your client or for sticking to the Pomodoro technique. That’s because you can now setup online timers inside Google itself by entering the timer command in the search box in the following format (the word “set” is optional): timer for <time> OR set timer for <time> The <time> can use a combination of hours, minutes and seconds. One more thing. This tip is courtesy Lifehacker. LAME LAME (Lame Ain't an MP3 Encoder) is the Hydrogenaudio recommended MP3 encoder. It has been developed by the open-source community since 1998, and has become the highest quality MP3 encoder for most purposes. Some benefits of using LAME: Highly optimised presets Fast encoding CBR, ABR and quality-optimized VBR encoding methods Gapless playback with LAME-header compliant decoders Supported by recommended CD rippers Exact Audio Copy and CDex Highly tunable History[edit] LAME development began around mid-1998. The project quickly became a team effort. Nowadays LAME is considered the best MP3 encoder at mid & high bitrates, and features the best VBR model among MP3 implementations, mostly thanks to the dedicated work of talented developers Takehiro Tominaga, Naoki Shibata, Darin Morrison, Gabriel Bouvigne, Robert Hegemann, and others. LAME source code is maintained in a CVS repository, and the only official codebase for public use is the trunk code tagged "MAIN". Example: -V 2 Remarks[edit]

A Transport of Delight: CD Transport Jitter Not that long ago, digital audio was considered perfect if all the bits could be stored and retrieved without data errors. If the data coming off the disc were the same as what went on the disc, how could there be a sound-quality difference with the same digital/analog converter? This "bits is bits" mentality scoffs at sonic differences between CD transports, digital interfaces, and CD tweaks. Because none of these products or devices affects the pattern of ones and zeros recovered from the disc, any differences must be purely in the listener's imagination. After all, they argued, a copy of a computer program runs just as well as the original. As our knowledge of digital audio has become more sophisticated, however, we've learned that the timing of those ones and zeros is of utmost importance. Although I have a pretty good feel for how jitter in a digital processor can degrade sound quality, what I don't begin to understand is why CD transports sound so different.

BitTorrent tracker Trackers and indexers[edit] Public trackers[edit] Public or open trackers can be used by anyone by adding the tracker address to an existing torrent, or they can be used by any newly created torrent. The most popular are OpenBitTorrent, PublicBitTorrent and istole.it.[1] The Pirate Bay operated one of the most popular public trackers until disabling it in 2009 amid legal trouble, opting to offer only magnet links.[2] Private trackers[edit] A private tracker is a BitTorrent tracker that restricts use, by requiring users to register with the site. Legal issues[edit] Legal uses[edit] There are several circumstances under which it is legal to distribute copyrighted material or parts thereof. Free distribution. There are also experiments at legally selling content that is distributed over BitTorrent using a "secure" tracker system. Improving torrent reliability[edit] Trackers are the primary reason for a damaged BitTorrent "swarm". Multi-tracker torrents[edit] Trackerless torrents[edit] Software[edit]

CD: Jitter, Errors & Magic The promise of "perfect sound forever," successfully foisted on an unwitting public by the Compact Disc's promoters, at first seemed to put an end to the audiophile's inexorable need to tweak a playback system's front end at the point of information retrieval. Several factors contributed to the demise of tweaking during the period when CD players began replacing turntables as the primary front-end signal source. First, the binary nature (ones and zeros) of digital audio would apparently preclude variations in playback sound quality due to imperfections in the recording medium. Second, if CD's sound was indeed "perfect," how could digital tweaking improve on perfection? Recently, however, there has been a veritable explosion of interest in all manner of CD tweaks, opening a digital Pandora's box. The intensity of my interest in the subject was heightened by a product called "CD Stoplight," marketed by AudioPrism. Other listeners, to a person, have had similar impressions.

How to open / forward ports for uTorrent / Azureus One of the biggest headaches with using a BitTorrent client with a router is port forwarding / lack of open ports / checking for open ports. Opening ports in a torrent client is more about troubleshooting router settings and configuration to get the port forwarding right. I use a Netgear router with my laptop, hence I will be using it for the steps in this tutorial. However, these should suffice for most routers, Open port in uTorrent Find and modify port used We need to find the port used by torrent client. In uTorrent, go to Options > Preferences. Find network IP Hit Windows key, type cmd and hit enter. Router configuration Enter 192.168.1.1 (without .com at the end or http in front) into the address bar of browser and hit enter. You are on your own in adding port forwarding – get the option/menu that says “add a port” with forwarding. Ensure that you name it with a recognizable word and set it to be open for both TCP and UDP.

Optical Discs, Deterioration and Future Storage If you’re the owner of any albums on compact disc going back to their release in the early 1980s, you might have recently noticed that the tracks don’t play as well as they used to. Similarly, games and software that were purchased in the 1990s on CD-ROMs (or even some DVD-ROM titles from the past few years) might have become difficult to play, resulting in you scouring eBay for a replacement or trying to track down a reissue (if the game was particularly good). DVD movie titles, too, seem to have suffered from aging – but what exactly is going on here? When first released, CDs and DVDs were said to be “indestructible” – save for scratches, the content on them should last forever. Yet over the past few years it has been shown that manufacturing faults and fungus have been able to destroy data, leaving CD- and DVD-ROM backups made by home users over the past 15 years potentially useless. So what can we do to get around this problem? Eaters of Data Optical Alternatives
