The Use of Mathematics in Computer Games 1 Introduction The purpose of this article is to have a look at how mathematics is used in computer games. I'll use examples from computer games you've probably already played. There are lots of different types of computer games, and I'll talk about how maths is used in some of the following examples: The First Person Shooter (FPS) is a type of game where you run around 3D levels carrying a big gun shooting stuff. The Strategy games are divided into two main types, Real Time Strategy (RTS), and Turn Based Strategy (not usually called TBS for some reason). Simulation games are games that try to make something as realistic as possible. There are some exercises which you can do (if you want) throughout this article. If you find any of the article patronising, I apologise, my excuse is that the article is aimed at people of many different ages so there might well be bits you already know. 2 First Person Shooters The most amazing things about FPS are their incredible graphics. 2.2 3D Graphics
Autour de GeoGebra Writing in Mathematics Featured Topic: Writing in Math Class Teachers incorporate writing in math class to help students reflect on their learning, deepen their understanding of important concepts by explaining and providing examples of those concepts, and make important connections to real-life applications of the math they are learning. Teachers use the writing assignments to assess student understanding of important concepts, student proficiency in explaining and using those concepts and each student's attitude toward learning mathematics. Writing in mathematics is a win-win for both teacher and student. Although it may be difficult to introduce this practice, it is well worth the effort. Look for simple ways to incorporate short writings throughout daily lessons and longer writings over the course of weeks or math units. Getting Started with Math Writing Often students who have difficulty writing in math class have less difficulty telling the teacher what they think. The basic steps of Think-Pair-Share are:
How Raster Calculator works The Raster Calculator tool allows you to create and execute Map Algebra expressions in a tool. Like other geoprocessing tools, the Raster Calculator can be used in ModelBuilder, allowing the power of Map Algebra to be more easily integrated into your workflows. Note: The Raster Calculator tool is not intended to be used in scripting environments and is not available in the standard Spatial Analyst arcpy module. To learn more about scripting and Map Algebra, see the help topic What is Map Algebra? The Raster Calculator is specifically designed to offer the following benefits: Implement single-line algebraic expressions.Support the use of variables in Map Algebra when in ModelBuilder.Apply Spatial Analyst operators on three or more inputs in a single expression.Use multiple Spatial Analyst tools in a single expression. Raster Calculator is designed to execute a single-line algebraic expression using multiple tools and operators using a simple, calculator-like tool interface. Tools Expression
Math Games - from Mangahigh.com Frog Creates An Open-Source Guide To Design Thinking Brainstorming, whether you believe in it or shun it, is a fantastic neologism. But as Frog Principal Designer David Sherwin has found, it’s also a very American word--one that doesn’t exist in every language. “We were in Bangladesh, trying to translate the idea into Bengali,” says Sherwin, remembering a recent trip his team spent working with teenage girls on community issues. “One of the translators on our team wrote up on the board, brain + storm. Sherwin’s experience touches on a crucial problem for many NGOs and foundations attempting to transpose Western methods of social innovation to other cultures. Today, Frog will release the Collective Action Toolkit, a free, 72-page booklet that seeks to develop a universal framework for people of all ages and cultural backgrounds to tackle big problems in their communities. Sherwin and Fabricant didn’t set out to build the Toolkit--in fact, it grew out of a separate project that clearly demonstrated its necessity.

Home | wiris.com Number and Operation Session 6: Number Theory The numbers 24 and 36 have certain things in common, including many common factors -- numbers that divide evenly into both of them. For example 2, 3, and 6 are all common factors. The largest such number is called the "greatest common factor." In this case, the greatest common factor of 24 and 36 is 12. Another characteristic numbers can share is a common multiple -- a third number that is evenly divisible by both 24 and 36. One way to explore the common factors and multiples of the two numbers is to use a Venn diagram: The circle on the left contains all the prime factors (i.e., counting numbers that have exactly two factors: themselves and 1) of 24, and the circle on the right contains all the prime factors of 36. The numbers contained in the intersection are those factors that are in both numbers; i.e., their common factors. Note that the largest of these factors is 12. In order to be a multiple of both numbers, a number must contain all the factors of both numbers. Note 3

This means that while a phrase is made up of multiple words (all of which have their own function), all of the words work together to perform one larger function. There are many different kinds of phrases, and we're going to explore quite a few of them. Here is a brief overview of each phrase and its diagramming basics. You can also see more diagramming on the diagramming phrases page. Prepositional Phrases These function as adjectives or adverbs. There are two prepositional phrases in the example below.
