Saul Bass Designer Saul Bass Saul Bass (May 8, 1920 — April 25, 1996) was a graphic designer and filmmaker, perhaps best known for his design of film posters and title sequences. During his 40-year career Bass worked for some of Hollywood’s greatest filmmakers, including Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Otto Preminger, Billy Wilder, and Martin Scorsese. Queers, Feminists & Interiors - THE FUNAMBULIST MAGAZINE Queers, Feminists & Interiors presents a critique of the normative violence of gender in the specific context of indoor architectures. It engages a dialogue between trans perspectives on public bathrooms (Paul B. Preciado and Myka T. Johnson & Jamie Marsicano) or the capitalist workplace (João Gabriell), the demagogic blindspot of femonationalism when violence against women is deployed in domestic spaces (Sara Farris), the clandestine alternatives to white “gayborhoods” for queer Arabs in France (Mehammed Amadeus Mack), the impossibility for young Hong Kong lesbians or, to an even higher degree, female migrant domestic workers to access “a room of one’s own” (Sonia Wong and Tings Chak), the violence of the norm in the design of all rooms and furniture (Léopold Lambert), or the far-from-neutral space of the coming out (Paola Paredes).

Urban Shapes is a colourful geometric bench by Nortstudio Three colourful stools are joined by a steel grid to form this modular bench by Belgian design office Nortstudio. Jef De Brabander and Kathleen Opdenacker, founders of the Antwerp-based studio, said the geometric design is inspired by the forms and materials that are commonly found on construction sites. They call it Urban Shapes. The bench's base is made up of three colourful stools that resemble children's building blocks: an orange square cuboid, a blue cylinder and a pink cuboid with a curved side. Each one is designed to be reminiscent of a different object found on a building site, from industrial pipes to structural beams. These blocks are scored with a lattice pattern, allowing them to be joined together by an orange steel grille.

The New Theatre - The Sydney Office of Interbrand. Established in 1932, the New Theatre is a proudly independent theater in Sydney, Australia. “We’re not slick, we’re not refined and we don’t conform,” is only one of many statements it makes, “We believe in artistic and social expression, not just escapism. When we take the stage, we’re for real.” Or “We’re driven by passion, not money.” You get the point. This past January, New Theatre introduced a new visual and verbal identity created by the Sydney office of Interbrand.

The architecture of violence Filmmaker: Ana Naomi de Sousa On a journey across the settlements and roads of the West Bank and along the Separation Wall, Israeli architect Eyal Weizman demonstrates how architecture is central to the Israeli occupation of Palestine. "Architecture and the built environment is a kind of a slow violence. Rui Pereira : product design Chim Chim scent diffuserLearning from the flexibility of the new Cotto’s 'Patchwork' collection design by Pierro Lissoni, we developed CHIM CHIM scent diffuser. The two elements which compose this apparently solid object, work as a box for the scent bottle, making it accessible at any time. Simultaneously, the user is invited to mix and match the 6 different materials available, having the possibility of creating 36 different combinations. The same principle of using dried flowers as a scent support known as ‘pout pourri’, was translated into solid natural surfaces like marble, red clay, Hinoki wood, porcelain, brass and aluminum.

16 Infographic Resumes, A Visual Trend (It’s actually up to 18 now.) A number of designers have attempted to design a visual, infographic resume, and while this is certainly not mainstream (yet), it is gaining some momentum. I wanted to highlight some of the great examples available on the web, but the line between an infographic resume and a designer resume is tough not to cross. I’ve tried to stay true to only infographic versions here, and didn’t include many good illustrated resumes that didn’t include any visualizations. Michael Anderson’s 2008 concept on an infographic resume (above) is probably the most well known.
