About us European Schoolnet is the network of 33 European Ministries of Education, based in Brussels. As a non-profit international organisation, we aim to bring innovation in teaching and learning to our key stakeholders: Ministries of Education, schools, teachers, researchers, and industry partners. We are driven by our mission to support education stakeholders in Europe in the transformation of education processes for 21st century digitalized societies. We do this by identifying and testing promising innovative practices, sharing evidence about their impact, and supporting the mainstreaming of teaching and learning practices aligned with 21st century standards for inclusive education. Since its founding in 1997, European Schoolnet has used its links with education ministries to help schools become effective in the pedagogical use of technology, equipping both teachers and pupils with the necessary skills to achieve in the digital society. Our activities encompass three strategic areas:

Programme guide The Erasmus+ Programme Guide is essential to understanding Erasmus+. It provides participating organisations and individuals a comprehensive list of opportunities supported by the programme. The 2021 Programme Guide is available as an online version, with a more user-friendly, accessible format to make it easier to find information, as well as a PDF version. Understanding by Design Overview Understanding by Design is a book written by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe that offers a framework for designing courses and content units called “Backward Design.” Instructors typically approach course design in a “forward design” manner, meaning they consider the learning activities (how to teach the content), develop assessments around their learning activities, then attempt to draw connections to the learning goals of the course. In contrast, the backward design approach has instructors consider the learning goals of the course first.

Higher Education from Cambridge Do Coyle, University of Edinburgh Do Coyle is Chair in Languages Education and Classroom Pedagogy at the University of Edinburgh. Oliver Meyer is Head of the Department of Teaching English as a Foreign Language at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz. Together, they have been working on a shared vision for deeper learning across subjects and languages. The pedagogic approach presented in this book is the result of extensive collaboration with expert practitioners and researchers around the world. The CEFR Levels Some of the instruments produced within the Council of Europe have played a decisive role in the teaching of so-called “foreign” languages by promoting methodological innovations and new approaches to designing teaching programmes, notably the development of a communicative approach. They have facilitated a fresh approach to communicating these teaching methods in a manner potentially more conducive to operational appropriation of unknown languages. By thus identifying language needs, they were able to pinpoint the knowledge and know-how required for attaining this communication “threshold. The CEFR organises language proficiency in six levels, A1 to C2, which can be regrouped into three broad levels: Basic User, Independent User and Proficient User, and that can be further subdivided according to the needs of the local context. Under such circumstances, it would be very difficult for the University of Limerick to operate and host us on their campus, so regrettably, we are having to cancel our summer programme. Please understand that we are very upset by this: we are truly sorry to have kept you waiting, and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Courses Teacher professional development for the digital age European Schoolnet has organised fee-based courses in its own training venue since 2012. Future Classroom Lab is a unique and inspiring learning environment in Brussels, that challenges visitors to rethink the role of pedagogy, technology and design in their classrooms. The training opportunities include from 2 to 5-day workshops and courses to address today's teaching challenges and the classrooms of the future.
