Media Pioneer – Dioniso Punk Like a Georges Méliès of the information age, Zbigniew Rybczyński employed specially constructed rigs and cutting-edge — for its time — technology to create a kind of visual sorcery leaving you asking “how on earth did he do that?”. The film he’s most noted for, Tango, was the first ever Oscar awarded to a Polish artist — 1983. Thirty-six characters from different stages of life — representations of different times — interact in one room, moving in loops, observed by a static camera. In Tango, Zbigniew exploits this concept of the single offscreen space by filling it with a plethora of actions. It soon becomes obvious that such a small space, that of a small room, could not possibly contain all the actions taking place. Zbigniew also makes critical use of off-screen space, exposing it for the artifice it is. “I had to draw and paint about 16.000 cell-mattes, and make several hundred thousand exposures on an optical printer. Draw a square using the Rectangle Tool (M), while holding Shift to constrain it's dimensions. Step 4 Make a new art brush once again. Step 5

Björk holds weirdly magical live motion capture press conference to tease new virtual reality album When it comes to the fantastical and strange, everyone is always going to have a hard time topping Icelandic singer Björk. But today Björk took another step into the realm beyond where the rest of us live by conducting a press conference in which she appeared as a live motion capture avatar. While Björk was 1,200 miles away wearing a “mocap” (motion capture) suit in a studio at the Icelandic Media College in Reykjavik, her image was appearing in a London gallery rendered in a swirling rainbow of colors and objects. On her Facebook page, Björk said the motion capture stream was intended to emphasize her embrace of new technology and the role virtual reality played in the creative process that led to her new album, Vulnicura. “Technology is enabling women to work outside the already formed hierarchical systems,” she wrote. The rendering of her motion capture badself today was aided by #D technology from Autodesk and Unity. Here’s a bit more detail on the album from a press release:

Unity just bought Weta Digital - yeah, the Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson one - CDM Create Digital Music The democratization of visual effects continues at a stunning pace, with or without acquisitions. But it’s hard to beat this example – an Academy Award-winning visual effects studio is now in the hands of a game engine. So the Unreal versus Unity rivalry is definitely real. Unreal continues apace, and in particular, can appeal to musicians thanks to its unprecedented modular sound engine. I covered some of those visual developments quickly a few days ago – the image is either a demonstration of some new sky rendering features, or God speaking to Moses on the mountaintop about what He felt about C# as a code language: And here’s the “look what we just bought” brag video from the folks at Unity, featuring, yes, Peter Jackson. What strikes me is a longer arc in media technology. Computer graphics started out not only out of reach of artists, but very much intertwined with the US defense industry and the Cold War – just like the computer itself. Unity Announces Intent to Acquire Weta Digital
The Power of Photoshop’s Refine Edge Tool One of the most difficult and frustrating tasks in Photoshop is making a clean and decent selection on photos that involve super fine hair, fur, leaves, and any fiber like elements. When using the standard selection tool or the masking process, you may able to accurately select smooth edges. We may use the color range tool and the tweaking of levels and channels to select much difficult areas but that would also take too much time on manipulation and very complicated to follow. The good news is that, PS5 or Photoshop CS5 has a tool called the QUICK SELECTION tool. This tool also includes a very powerful sub tool called the REFINE EDGES tool, using the refine edges tool will greatly help and speed up editing tasks especially when you need to select out the hair or fur on subjects. For example, we have here a wonderful haircut. Normally we would start at the marquee tool. Now when you have selected the necessary parts, find the Refine Edges option found at the right top area.
Creating Soap Bubbles Creating Soap BubblesbyAndy Halls In this tutorial we will create soap bubbles which generate from the soap water and can be used in the dreamy images, artistic stage performance images or in the bathroom. But before starting let’s understand how soap bubbles create and their behavior. A soap bubble is a very thin film of soap water that forms a sphere with an iridescent surface. A bubble can exist because the surface layer of a liquid (usually water) has a certain surface tension, which causes the layer to behave somewhat like an elastic sheet. So, now the theory class is over and let’s moves to the interesting practical Class. Step 1: Create a 300 dpi canvas and fills the background with Black color because in white background it is difficult to see a bubble. Step 2: Create new layer, select Elliptical marquee tool, press shift and create a big circle on the black background. Step 3: Go into Edit > Stroke, Enter width as approx 10px, color must be “Gray” and Location - “Center”.
