Daily 5 in my Upper Elementary Classroom | Classroom Tested Resources Hey guys! It’s Kristen from Chalk & Apples. When I first learned about the Daily 5, I loved the idea. Time Management with 30/30 I recently found an app that I absolutely adore! This app allows you to set time limits for activities, starting and stopping them whenever you want, rather than based on the time of day. Age Appropriate Activities Sometimes it's tough to find age-appropriate resources for the Daily 5 activities. Read to Self/Read to Someone Most of our Read to Self and Read to Someone time is spent on self-selected library books. Tween Tribune (from the Smithsonian) and NewsELA are both sites that feature news and current events in student-friendly language. Listen to Reading StoryNory is primarily for younger grades, but they do have lots of fables, fairy tales, and other traditional stories. Storyline Online is another great site with lots of high quality picture books. Work on Writing NoRedInk is great for practicing grammar skills. Word Work

English Card Game – Kings (No, not the drinking game) – The Canswedian English Teacher We’ve all been at those parties… you know the kind… Everyone is standing around having a good time, and then someone produces a deck of cards and declares, “Let’s play Kings!” Kings was a drinking game with different rules for each card you turn over. I (being the incredibly responsible person that I am) NEVER took part in those silly shenanigans… Now, many moons later, I have stumbled upon this drinking game again on the internet and thought that it might be fun to turn it into some sort of English Grammar/Speaking game. I know what you are thinking – and OBVIOUSLY I don’t tell the students – Brianne: HEY CLASS! Class: What Brianne? Brianne: I turned this really fun drinking game I used to watch people play into an English Grammar/Speaking game! Class: Super! Puh-leaze. Without further ado, here are the rules for the Kings which are fairly similar to my Jenga game. Here is how to set up the cards.

How to Speak Fluent English: Top 10 Tips – Espresso English Today’s lesson is important, because MANY students write to me and ask how they can become fluent – so here are my top 10 tips for speaking fluent English. 1) Understand that there is no “magic bullet.” That means there is NO secret and super-effective way to guarantee fluency very fast. Yes, there are different methods, and some are more effective than others. For example, a good English course should balance all the areas of language (speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing). If any of those elements are missing, then you will have difficulty becoming fluent. Also, different methods will appeal to different people. Still, becoming fluent in English – or any language – is a long-term process. If anyone says they have “the secret” to instant fluency… don’t believe them! 2) Use English in your daily life as much as possible. It’s more important to have frequent contact with English than to have hours and hours of study. 3) Balance the areas of language learning.

Ways To Use Pokemon Go In The Classroom Pokemon Go is an AR (augmented reality) game in which you explore the real world and use a mobile app to 'catch' hidden Pokemon creatures. These appear on your map and can be collected, trained, evolved and also used in battles. The game can be used as the starting point for learning in many different subjects. Many of the activities below can be completed in the classroom after a fun-filled session of catching Pokemon outdoors (although this isn't essential). If you have any other ideas, please leave a comment at the bottom of the page. English Create a set of instructions to teach people how to play Pokemon Go.Write a review of the game.
