Not only do we have the constant rumor that Apple is making one, but it seems like every newspaper on the planet see them as the "prophet" that will save them from their doom. Lately, a very impressive tablet reader was showcased to the world - the Time Inc. tablet, featuring how "Sports Illustrated" would work. It certainly looks impressive. This isn't the future of news. Is it a horse or a car? A long time ago, when the world was changing how we moved around, Henry Ford said, "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." He knew that the answer to a faster horse was to build a car. The tablet of "Sports Illustrated" isn't a car. There is no change here, there is no real innovation. What we really want Let's face it, the newspaper industry is dying because they are no longer needed. The newspapers were created to solve "how to bring news from around the world to you." The internet is much simpler.

jQuery Plugin/Widget Timeglider JS is a zooming, panning data-driven timeline widget written in Javascript. This widget is the core of our our timeline authoring and publishing app, and can be integrated into any HTML application environment. Timelines can be zoomed by dragging the vertical slider at right: up for zooming in (less time shown) and down for zooming out (more time shown). The mousewheel also works as a zoom controller. Any white area on the "stage" of the timeline can be dragged left and right, as can the blue "ruler" which marks out different units of time. A few bullets: Timeglider works well on iPads, but is not yet optimized for Android devices.
