Natural Home Patio Pools & Outdoor Wood Deck Designs | Designs &Ide... Sure we all wanted to a swimming pool as kids, but did we ever think about the cost and space it would take up or work it would involve? Once the hallmark of a luxury home, many people view high-end modernist back-yard swimming pools as either a play-place for the ultra-rich or a hard-to-maintain space-displacing burden of suburbia. A combined pool-and-deck design can be a great green way to make a useful swimming or lounging area that is both visually and ecologically more integrated and sustainable. Surrounding greenery can provide privacy, rocks add to the aesthetic and make for functional seats as well. The use of wood also softens the transition between the man-made and natural portions of the design, blurring the lines between deck or patio and the peripheral environment.

Rent a Tiny Sleepbox At Moscow Airport. For Sleeping. Images credit Arch Group/Ivanov Ilya. When I first wrote about the Sleepbox two years ago, I was dubious that it would ever see the light of day, noting "It is an interesting exercise in seeing how small a space one can comfortably live in, but one suspects that the opportunity for, um, misuse might keep this idea of the 15 minute hotel room from going mainstream." But it has, with a working prototype set up in Moscow. Designed by the Arch Group, about the only change from the original proposal is that it is made of wood instead of plastic (common for prototypes, and the minimum time has increased from 15 minutes to half an hour. They appear to have given up on one my favourite features of the original concept, the automatic bed-changing system: [bed] is equipped with automatic system of change of bed linen. Instead they have gone for conventional linen. The architects write: Imagine the situation where you are in a modern city, you are not a local resident, and you have not booked a hotel.

Custom Tree House Plans, DIY Ideas & Building Designs | Designs &Id... - StumbleUpon No, really: would you want to design, build and live in an real fantasy tree house all year round? More and more people have decided to do just that and where treehouses were once novelty architecture for kids they are now (almost) mainstream structures, as attested to by the pictures above via Bella Seven. Many modern tree house designs and home designers and custom builders take a site-specific approach and construct their tree buildings around not only views and rooms but also have to account for access and structural support in unique and novel ways. Some of the results are little auxiliary spaces intended for guests or vacations while others are fully developed tree homes with everything need for daily living. While a lot of attention is paid to lofty plans by fashionable designers, there are many people who continue to use quite conventional home-building plans, techniques and materials to construct tree homes and cabins that look much like ordinary residences on the ground below.

15 Awesome And Inspiring Offices I’m sure you’ve seen this office plenty of times on the internet. This office is all about fun: it has a lot of specially decorated rooms in which employees can do their work. There’s even a game room for relaxation and a gym where you can work out. The Selgas Cano Architecture office, designed by Iwan Baan, makes you feel like a part of nature. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past five years, you’ve probably already heard of Twitter. Saegeling Medizintechnik is a German company that produces high-end medical equipment. This office somehow reminds me of the nuclear bunker in the end of Terminator 3. Yahoo has several offices around the world. TBWA Hakuhodo is a Japanese advertising company. You probably know Pixar from great animation films such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Wall-E and The Incredibles. Pallotta Teamworks asked Clive Wilkinson Architects to create a one of a kind office. This is probably one of my favourite offices.

Perhaps it’s a grim subject, but safety and distance from world conflict can be a motivating factor in your choice to expatriate. 12 Complex 3D Sculptures Cut from Single Sheets of Paper & Dornob Of the 187 billion pounds of paper produced on our planet every year, how many are used this creativelyA distinctly modern variant of classic origami art, these three-dimensional works rise up from the page as if the paper were coming alive – animated shapes, scenes and figures carved crisply from generic white paper stock. The sheets themselves are technically blank (canvasses, if you will) from which Peter Callesen cuts his storybook forms, bent upward and back in on one another – both liberated but also still tied to the page from whence they came. Paper-making was once itself a fine artisan craft, but in the age of mass-production it has become a standardized and recognizable object the world over. While his small-scale works may be the most widely known, Callesen has also created many framed pieces based on similar techniques as well as large installation artworks likewise revolving around paper cut, bent, glued and reshaped into forms both familiar and fascinating.

Moving Walls Transform Apartment: Four Minutes of WOW! (VIDEO) A year ago we wrote about Gary Chang's Domestic Transformer, an incredible 344 square foot apartment that could change into any of 24 different designs. We showed pictures and plans, but more than any house I have seen, this one needs a movie. Planet Green visited it for the World's Greenest Homes, and it is truly four minutes of wow. all photos: Marcel Lam for The New York Times One learns a lot from the video that we didn't know last year- that swinging hammock is really in the center of a huge home theater setup. The wall units, which are suspended from steel tracks bolted into the ceiling, seem to float an inch above the reflective black granite floor. A simplified drawing of the apartment from AFP. Chang also explains why this kind of design is so important in a world of diminishing resources, particularly when one of those resources is space: He has now written a book about his experiences in the apartment; he has lived in it since he was 14 and has renovated it five times.
