7 YouTube channels to spice up your lessons One of the funniest and weirdest activities you can enjoy with your friends is a so-called YouTube party. Basically, you meet your mates and have regular fun until someone says “I totally have to show you something on YouTube…” And boom, the YT party begins because everyone has seen something to share with friends. And, oh, the depths of the Internet you may visit… In a Heartbeat This lesson plan is designed around a short film titled In a Heartbeat and the theme of love. Students learn and practice expressions using the word “heart”, watch a short film trailer, predict and write a story, watch and discuss a short film, and watch and discuss a video in which elderly people give their reactions to the short film. Language level: Intermediate (B1) – Upper Intermediate (B2) Learner type: Teens and adults Time: 90 minutes

A letter from Fred Fakta om filmen Dokumentär med låten Sweet Lorraine av Fred Stobaugh. Av: Green Shoe Studio. English Fishbowl/Socratic Seminar Discussion – The Canswedian English Teacher Ahhh… the fishbowl assignment. I saw an English teacher do this with her class once a long time ago, and was immediately hooked. Why is this is my absolute, most favourite assignment to give students? It covers an insane amount of knowledge requirements – understanding, showing understanding, using strategies for listening and reading, choosing text and spoken language from different media and using it in their own production… the list goes onAuthentic speech – It makes students think on their feet and interact with each otherEvidence – students have to prove their point with evidence and sourcesNews – the students read the news, and use facts to back up their argumentsCritical thinking skills – students move away from just memorizing facts (rote learning), and move towards using higher level thinking

Similes and Metaphors – The Canswedian English Teacher Fun fact! Did you know that the simile, “Life is like a box of chocolates” was used WAY before it became famous in Forrest Gump. Does anybody know who it was that wrote it? I’ll give you the answer at the bottom of the blog (*evil laugh*) However, since students don’t really know this writer I speak of, I will say a big THANK YOU to Mr. Blackout poetry – Cecilia Lind Hello students! 16 Ways to Play The Hot Seat Game One of the most popular TEFL activities for practising and reviewing vocabulary is called ‘The Hot Seat’ game. You have probably played it with your learners, although you may know it as ‘back to the board’. The procedure is simple: One student sits in a chair with his or her back to the board. The teacher writes a word on the board, which the student sitting in the chair cannot see but the other students can.The other students define the word to the student with his / her back to the board.

This is Me – Grade 7 Unit – The Canswedian English Teacher I was so lucky this year, in that my Grade 7s walked into my English class bright eyed and bushy tailed – ready to go. One boy put up his hand on the first day and declared, “I want to learn English, because I want to go to California.” From what I’ve been told, this is the middle-class Swedish dream. You do you little man – you do you. The Wright Family – The Canswedian English Teacher There are so many homophones and homonyms in the English language am I right (adj/adv/)? write? rite? wright?

Hero Subunit 3: Three Paragraph Essay on a Personal Hero – The Canswedian Eng... Subunit 3: Three paragraph essay on a personal hero. Ask the students to think about their personal hero, or someone they look up to. It could be a family member, singer, someone from history, whoever…It is mindblowing how many will say they don’t know. If they don’t have one – they can research. I showed a few people The White Helmets from Syria for example. One girl thought about her grandmother who was battling cancer.
