The New Progressive Movement Kent Porter/The Press Democrat, via Associated Press Protesters severely disrupted operations at the Port of Oakland, Calif., earlier this month. Thirty years ago, a newly elected Ronald Reagan made a fateful judgment: “Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem.” Taxes for the rich were slashed, as were outlays on public services and investments as a share of national income. Reagan’s was a fateful misdiagnosis. Washington still channels Reaganomics. Both parties have joined in crippling the government in response to the demands of their wealthy campaign contributors, who above all else insist on keeping low tax rates on capital gains, top incomes, estates and corporate profits. The first age of inequality was the Gilded Age at the end of the 19th century, an era quite like today, when both political parties served the interests of the corporate robber barons. The second gilded age was the Roaring Twenties. None of this will be easy.

DropSend - Email large files and send large files - Aurora Your Information Source for Chakras When one part of a chakra center is out of sync it may eventually effect its other parts and possibly its neighboring chakra. When a chakra center is out of balance it generally means that it is over-active or under-active, or possibly congested or blocked. If this happens it is usually felt on a mental, emotional or physical level. What is Energy & Why does It Affect Our Chakras? Color and light are inseparable. Since light and its colors physically affect glands and hormones, they will also have a marked influence on our moods and feelings. Importance of Our Chakra System In reality little is known and understood about the human psyche and its intricate systems. The benefit of learning about your own chakra system is for you to understand on a whole (whole = body, mind and spirit in harmony) that when all parts of you (all of your seven chakra centers) are communicating equally and working in alliance with each other, you will have little or no energy disorders.

The prison industry in the United States: big business or a new form of slavery? Human rights organizations, as well as political and social ones, are condemning what they are calling a new form of inhumane exploitation in the United States, where they say a prison population of up to 2 million – mostly Black and Hispanic – are working for various industries for a pittance. For the tycoons who have invested in the prison industry, it has been like finding a pot of gold. They don’t have to worry about strikes or paying unemployment insurance, vacations or comp time. All of their workers are full-time, and never arrive late or are absent because of family problems; moreover, if they don’t like the pay of 25 cents an hour and refuse to work, they are locked up in isolation cells. There are approximately 2 million inmates in state, federal and private prisons throughout the country. According to California Prison Focus, “no other society in human history has imprisoned so many of its own citizens.” What has happened over the last 10 years? . . . Who is investing?

Mamiverse — Latina Moms | Daughters - Aurora SimplyNoise - The Best Free White Noise Generator on the Internet. Why I’m Suing Barack Obama - Chris Hedges' Columns Attorneys Carl J. Mayer and Bruce I. Afran filed a complaint Friday in the Southern U.S. District Court in New York City on my behalf as a plaintiff against Barack Obama and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta to challenge the legality of the Authorization for Use of Military Force as embedded in the latest version of the National Defense Authorization Act, signed by the president Dec. 31. The act authorizes the military in Title X, Subtitle D, entitled “Counter-Terrorism,” for the first time in more than 200 years, to carry out domestic policing. I spent many years in countries where the military had the power to arrest and detain citizens without charge. The bill, however, does not define the terms “substantially supported,” “directly supported” or “associated forces.” I met regularly with leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza. But I suspect the real purpose of this bill is to thwart internal, domestic movements that threaten the corporate state. But it passed anyway.

Steve Jobs's seven key decisions | Macworld - Aurora When Steve Jobs officially returned to Apple 15 years ago, it marked a moment of rebirth for the ailing company. Within eight months (September 17, 1997, to be exact), he assumed the mantle of Interim CEO (later abbreviated to “iCEO” for cuteness) and executed a stark and keen strategy to save Apple from oblivion. Almost a year after his untimely passing, it's a good time to look back at seven key moves Jobs made to right the Apple ship during his early days as iCEO. This is not meant to be an exhaustive or complete study: Jobs made dozens of decisions a day. Taking the reins The most important decision Steve Jobs made was to take control of Apple. After the purchase of NeXT in late 1996, Apple’s then-CEO Gil Amelio brought Jobs in as a special advisor in January 1997. Trimming the fat Before Jobs came back to Apple, the company manufactured dozens of different Macintosh desktops, laptops, and servers in a dizzying array of variations. In the Macintosh realm, Jobs wiped the slate clean.
