Facebook Has Been Spying On Children For Years, Why Is It Still Losing Them? Screengrab of TechmemeTechmeme You know a story is a big deal if it takes up more than a screen on Techmeme and boy does Josh Constantine's Techcrunch scoop on Facebook paying teens for access to their phone activity take up some real estate. Two screens unexploded to be exact and counting, such is the outrage at Facebook undertaking such a morally questionable action. One thing struck me as I read into the story though - if Facebook has all this data, why are they so bad at keeping teens? Facebook is losing teens in record numbers compared to years ago. The Techcrunch piece is a must read. How Facebook used this data remains unclear, the platform has been collecting data since 2016, but spotting new apps and services is a likely use case. Paid surveillance on youth is the just the latest Facebook scandal to be uncovered by the media.

What is rotoscoping animation and how to do it | Adobe You can try to create animation with the rotoscope method in Animate. Before you begin, watch the footage all the way through and think about how you’ll animate it. Like other forms of frame-by-frame animation, rotoscoping even a few seconds is a time-consuming process and requires a lot of patience. “A five-second clip could take five to ten hours,” animator Mikey Glovart says. “But that’s kind of why it’s so satisfying when it’s done.” First steps. Create a new document and set your frame rate. Set up your animation. Once you’ve imported your video, set it to play once instead of on a loop. Don’t forget to save frequently as you go and make sure that you stay organised. Drawing tips. Break your figure down into shapes so you don’t have to redraw your entire subject in every frame: an arm, a lower leg and foot etc. Shape tween for speed. With these tools, you can completely transform a live-action video into an animation or animate particular elements on top of live-action footage.

Spiritual, but not religious Research has suggested "spiritual" people may suffer worse mental health than conventionally religious, agnostic or atheist people. But what exactly do people mean when they describe themselves as "spiritual, but not religious"? Spirituality is a common term these days, used by Prince Charles, and by the Archbishop of York as a way of stepping beyond religious divides. But many now call themselves "spiritual" but not religious. In the US, a Newsweek survey in 2005 put the figure at a quarter. King's research suggested that in the UK the "spiritual" group are more likely to have mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression. There will be people who will dispute the research, but it's certainly clear that the "spiritual, but not religious" represents a major strand of belief across the West. It's a broad church, so to speak. But for millions of others it is nothing so esoteric. Science has replaced God for many today, Vernon suggests. It's about more than belief, Burkeman says.

The 10 Major Motion Graphics Trends of 2019 The same story can be told in infinite ways – especially when it comes to motion graphics, in which designers aren’t constrained by real life footage, or in fact, reality at all. Now that technology enables such a wide array of possibilities, it’s hard to know what to put your focus on. From the low-tech days of flipbooks and black and white celluloid animation, right up to the invention of Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4D, we’ve come a long way. Despite all the changes, there are a few techniques that will never fail to charm us. Between the oldies (but goodies) and the freshest technological wonders, here’s a look at the top motion graphics trends of 2019: 1. As designers, there are certain rules we abide to. This rebranding video for media network, Basketball Forever, puts type in the forefront. 2. Another significant theme in typography is broken text. 3. A similar result is achieved in Pablo Lozano’s music video for Tamara Qaddoumi. 4. Lines are definitely underestimated. 5. 6.

'Christianity as default is gone': the rise of a non-Christian Europe Europe’s march towards a post-Christian society has been starkly illustrated by research showing a majority of young people in a dozen countries do not follow a religion. The survey of 16- to 29-year-olds found the Czech Republic is the least religious country in Europe, with 91% of that age group saying they have no religious affiliation. Between 70% and 80% of young adults in Estonia, Sweden and the Netherlands also categorise themselves as non-religious. The most religious country is Poland, where 17% of young adults define themselves as non-religious, followed by Lithuania with 25%. In the UK, only 7% of young adults identify as Anglican, fewer than the 10% who categorise themselves as Catholic. The figures are published in a report, Europe’s Young Adults and Religion, by Stephen Bullivant, a professor of theology and the sociology of religion at St Mary’s University in London. Religion was “moribund”, he said. The trajectory was likely to become more marked.
