On Trend: Marbled Patterns April 16th, 2014 I love the daily conversation about what’s happening in design and it’s so fun to see what trends come and go. I think back on when chevron and ombre were everywhere and now the one that’s taken over is marbled (or marbleized) prints and patterns. This one has been popular for a year now, it started in fashion and has moved to home decor. I’m drawn to fluid painterly strokes and swirls, so I’m a big fan of this trend.

How About Orange Here's a look at our upstairs guest bathroom. Last night I covered an accent wall with removable wallpaper. I love it! This bathroom has a peculiar layout. You walk in past the shower stall on the right, and when you hit the sink, you turn right to get to the toilet. Bow Front Bird Chest I've owned the "before" version of this bow front chest for several years. I fell hard and fast for the size and shape but I was never ever in love with the wood. Painting it was an easy choice. How's it Hangin'? A Flop Tutorial I know some of you still have snow on the ground, but for us Floridians summer is already kicking into high gear. And summer means flip flops. Yep, we southern girls have 'em for everything: casual wear, evening wear, 'flops with heels, 'flops with big poofy flowers glued on...you name it. They're cheap impulse buys, so it's easy to accumulate a whole mountain of flip-flops in a single season. But say you don't like the "mountain" storage method. Say you need to get your mound o' 'flops off the floor and into a tidy system, but are limited on space.

Something's Hiding In Here when editors of country living magazine first approached us about designing a studio for their "house of the year" project we couldn't believe it. we would get to create our dream space, partner with a designer and they would make it all happen. ummm, YES! we immediately started pinning inspiration and brainstorming all the things important to us in a shared work space: big work table, cozy seating, shelves for our collections, and a giant wall for inspiration. we knew we wanted to play with a balance of feminine and masculine as well as new and old. after all the sketching, planning, measuring, fabric and paint swatches... there it was, just like magic - our dream studio. as if that wasn't enough, we were able to attend the launch party in NYC, where the country living team treated us like celebrities. dream project! keep a look out for the september issue of country living where you can find out more details and see the other spaces created for the project.

The FB Story I’m “Fabulously Broke” better known as “FB“. In a nutshell: I got out of $60,000 of debt in 18 months, earning $65,000 a year while blogging through it all. When I work, I now earn about $17,000 – $21,000 a month on average, and my personal spending budget is around $1000 a month for rent, food and life. DIY Paint Swatch Chandelier A paint-swatch chandelier? I think so :) {Step 1} You’ll need a whole bunch of paint swatches in your desired colours (seriously, emphasis on the whole bunch part). I picked a variety of blush, pink and red hues so I could get a fancy ombre look to my chandelier but I can only imagine how many different looks you could go for with your own chandelier. Using a scalloped paper punch you’ll need to punch about 40 -60 swatches into little medallions.

wise craft Thank you all for your kind words on my New Day Northwest appearance! I am inspired by so many things, I decided that every Friday, I will highlight a favorite person, thing, or idea. Maybe you will be inspired too! See all past Friday Favorites here. Imitation = Flattery: Ruffle Bedspread Our master bedroom has a summer bedspread and a winter bedspread. In the winter it is actually a duvet cover. I have seen the ruffle bedspreads popping up everywhere and thought I would add a little texture to my existing duvet cover. Adding it to an existing cover is both easier and harder than sewing it yourself. It is easier because you don't have to make an entire duvet cover but harder because you have to be more precise where your ruffles start and end instead of building them into the seam.
