Announcing: Open Foresight & The Future of Facebook Project In a world characterized by increasing complexity and accelerating change, we need tools that help us understand future possibilities in order to make more informed decisions today. The field of Futures Studies, or Strategic Foresight, has already developed many such tools, but they are still not commonly utilized by the general public. So, I’ve partnered up with a colleague, Alvis Brigis, to help elevate the ‘futures thinking’ meme. We’re developing a process called Open Foresight, which aims to serve as an updated model for harvesting collective insight, generating scenarios, and creating strategic roadmaps into the future. By combining available data, opinions from the experts, and the conventional wisdom of the crowds, we’ll be able to analyze a topic from a wide range of perspectives and viewpoints. We’ll then distill that down into a series of animation-rich videos that summarize these insights.

Bluff In the card game of poker, a bluff is a bet or raise made with a hand which is not thought to be the best hand. To bluff is to make such a bet. The objective of a bluff is to induce a fold by at least one opponent who holds a better hand. The size and frequency of a bluff determines its profitability to the bluffer. Real-Time Conversations Hasten Social CRM Social Media has evolved beyond a series of platforms that enable content publishing, sharing, and discovery into a genuine, peer-to-peer looking glass into the real world conversations that affect the perception, engagement, and overall direction of the brands we represent. Socialized media didn’t invent “conversations,” it simply organized and amplified them and established an opportunity for learning and collaboration. Twitter and Twitter Search have ushered in a new genre of not only communications and associated search technology, but also dedicated ecosystems that transform and support how we as consumers share and discover relevant information in real-time. Online discussions, rants, and observations are either alarming (and motivating) brand managers or fooling them into unforeseen enthrallment. But the reality is that real-time dialogue is fueling connections and perceptions in the statusphere, blogopsphere, online communities, and the social web in general.

Facebook FAIL: Missteps and Shortcomings Revealed [INFOGRAPHIC] Facebook's gone through some profound changes lately, which is exciting to us, but leaves others in a profound state of anger and frustration. Like it or not, all is not perfect with the world's largest social network, and here's an infographic by a company that's more than happy to point out Facebook's shortcomings. This "Facebook Wall of Shame" was created by WordStream, Inc., a provider of search marketing software and services. Apparently Facebook's release of its iPad app left the company cold. For instance, WordStream points out how some critics who reviewed the Facebook iPad app called it "too little, too late."

How to Add Google Analytics to Your Facebook Fan Page You’ve created a Facebook fan page and people are frequenting your page. But do you really know how many people visit your page, what areas are popular and what parts of the world your visitors come from? Facebook Insights shows some demographic information on your page, but is limited to information about interactions with your fans. The free Google Analytics tool offers more sophisticated and comprehensive data.

Pinball Pinball is a type of arcade game, usually coin-operated, in which points are scored by a player manipulating one or more steel balls on a play field inside a glass-covered cabinet called a pinball machine. The primary objective of the game is to score as many points as possible. Points are earned when the ball strikes different targets on the play field. Gartner: Social CRM Market Will Reach $1B In Revenue By 2012 There’s more good news for the growth of the social enterprise. Gartner is reporting today that the social customer relationship management (CRM) market is forecast to reach over $1 billion in revenue by year-end 2012, up from approximately $625 million in 2010. Worldwide social CRM is projected to total $820 million in 2011. Gartner says that spending by buyers on social software for marketing, customer service and sales has increased by 40 percent in 2010, but social CRM remained less than 5 percent of the total CRM application market. And more than 100 vendors have social CRM offerings, but most are not profitable and generate annual revenue of less than $1 million.

Facebook Users Beware: Facebook's New Feature Could Embarrass You If you didn't watch Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook announcements last week — and of course the vast majority of Facebook users did not — you may be in for a surprise. Aside from the dramatically redesigned Facebook Timeline profile pages, which roll out in the coming weeks (and which I've grown to love), Facebook's new system to auto-share what you do around the web may catch many Facebook addicts off guard. In fact, even those people who know exactly how this new feature works may need to be on guard against sharing some seriously embarrassing updates.
