Starting over: Coining a new dollar - tech - 01 April 2011 Exotic dancers and traditionalists may come to miss it, but the iconic US dollar bill is ripe for replacement - with a coin. Scrapping the paper dollar would do more than prevent a frustrating time at the vending machine. It would also be more cost-effective: US dollar notes drop out of circulation within around two years due to wear and tear, but coins last decades. Grand Seiko Hi-Beat 36,000 GMT Watch Hands-On After a successful run at Baselworld last year with well-received new models like the 44GS, Grand Seiko has announced a GMT version of their Hi-Beat 36,000 Automatic SBGH line. Based around the same 9S85 movement used in the three-hander, this new GMT combines two great features from Grand Seiko's collection into a new watch with two unlimited versions and a gorgeous limited edition in green and yellow. Grand Seiko is offering the new Hi-Beat 36,000 GMT in three references, the black dial SBGJ003, the white dial SBGJ001 and the limited edition SBGJ005 which sports a lovely green dial with a yellow GMT hand. The calibre used in these new Hi-Beat GMTs is new and features a proper jumping hour hand for travelling, allowing you to easily manage local time while employing the GMT hand to track the time at home. GMT complications are one of my absolute favourite functions on a watch, but many manufacturers design the feature backwards, applying the jump adjust to the GMT hand.

This is the first level of our production. By now, our highly skilled stitchers, who have been performing this type of work for decades, are privileged to our inside information. The highlight of our production. The shoe is assembled by hand-stitching the welt to the insole and the vamp.

Jill Bowman is a great person and her blog is not only informative, but is also written in her voice, not legalese. (Her husband says it’s too “girly” but I totally disagree). Jill promises to dish on IP “train wrecks” (her words) that she’s seen over the past decade and hopefully her wisdom can save some folks future headaches.

Graphic Charts of Crony Capitalism Being Alive and Well in Fascist America Here are Venn diagrams of the big government/big business partnership that is ruining running the United States. They were created by Stephanie Herman. I will of course lead off with the granddaddy of all big government/big business partnerships, General Electric. [Thanks to Mark Fee]

Why Making Money Is Not Enough The world urgently needs businesses that have a higher purpose than profits. The problem with industrial capitalism today is not the profit motive; the problem is how the profit motive is usually framed. There is a persistent myth in the contemporary business world that the ultimate purpose of a business is to maximize profit for the company’s investors. However, the maximization of profit is not a purpose; instead, it is an outcome. About Ten c, The Emperors New Clothes, introduces the forever collection. The original fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen tells of looking beyond what you are told to see and to value what is truly there.
