19 images I was in Srinagar, Kashmir in the summer and fall of 1989 when all hell broke loose. The Kashmiri people had begun an armed struggle for independence from India. Today, Kashmiris still find themselves wondering if it is safe to go outside at night, but it is much better than it was even 5 years ago. No one in their right mind can call it normalcy, but then again, after 17 years of bombs, bullets and blood, maybe for them this is normal. Living in Kashmir for 13 years, I have been shot at, searched, threatened.

Here's What It Takes to Become a Professional Travel Photographer
When I was just eight years old I would flip through the pages of National Geographic and imagine being a photographer in Africa. I was captivated by the faces and places that seemed worlds apart from my typical Middle American hometown. Fast forward years later, and I'm living the dream as a travel photographer working throughout Africa and Europe. If you've ever wanted to travel the world with your camera, here's my advice to help you get started and thrive in professional travel photography. What is Travel Photography? Commercial travel photography provides imagery for the $1 trillion global tourism industry. Can Travel Photography Pay The Bills? Yes! As for me, I started shooting in my hometown years ago, gradually photographing throughout most of the US before moving to Europe in 2012 where I continued shooting and reaching out for opportunities. As with all types of photography, smart business sense is key. Here are some ideas for making a living with travel photography:
Portfolios - Photography of Mitchell Kanashkevich
I am a tirelessly curious world wanderer and a travel/documentary photographer. My main passion lies in capturing disappearing ancient cultures and the human condition in unique, challenging situations. My range of subjects is fairly broad, but whether I am photographing nomadic shepherds in India, life in the last traditional villages of Eastern Europe or sulfur miners working in a volcanic crater, my common aim is always the same - to capture the human element. I freelance and shoot documentary photo stories on the above mentioned topics. This website should provide a general idea of what I do. Once or twice a year I will be running photography workshops in some of the most photogenic locations around the world. Prints of my work can be purchased through the ‘PRINTS’ section.
The Traveling Photographer: The Basics
- Hi, my name is David Hobby and welcome to The Traveling Photographer: Fundamentals. I will be your instructor and your colleague, and ultimately, your traveling companion in this course. I'm gonna tell you right off the bat that this is not the typical photography course. Think of it more this way. To me, the most important parts of photography happen in the time before you press the button. Travel is a fantastic time to grow as a photographer. I've seen cameras ruin the family dynamic while on vacation, and this is something that I think is very important to learn to manage and to watch out for, and to do the things that allow your photography to make your trip a much better experience, both during and after, and not to fall down that trap of the camera and your photography completely absorbing the whole trip, which, if you don't pay attention, is exactly what will happen. From here, we will go outside, we'll visit some nearby cities, and that's another thing to think about.

30 Photos From Afghanistan That You Won't See In The News • Expert Vagabond
Traveling in Afghanistan Afghanistan Last summer I traveled into the mountains of Afghanistan for a two week backpacking adventure. What comes to mind when you think about Afghanistan? Sure, much of Afghanistan is still dangerous — but there’s also incredible beauty, hospitality and kindness in the country that doesn’t get reported on. It’s far too easy to vilify or write-off an entire nation when you don’t have to look those people in the eyes. I was able to experience the positive side of Afghanistan and its wonderful people, up close and personal, during my trip there last summer. Here are some of my favorite photos of people & landscapes from my 100 mile trek into Afghanistan’s remote and mountainous Wakhan Corridor. This is the “other” side of Afghanistan that you don’t see in the news.
