Scientists discover tiny solar panels that create themselves File this one under "holy crap," but scientists at MIT have discovered molecules that spontaneously assemble themselves into a pattern that can turn light into electricity — essentially a self-creating solar panel. In a petri dish. The researchers set out to create a synthetic process that imitates photosynthesis. The most interesting part is that the tiny solar array can be disassembled and reassembled just by adding chemicals. After repeatedly having the system go through disassembly and reassembly, the scientists found the system had no loss in efficiency. MIT News, via Kurzweil AI
History of China for Kids - History Games and Videos History of China for Kids For many centuries China had the world's most advanced civilization. Chinese history can be traced back to around 1550 BC (Shang Dynasty). It was followed by the long lasting Zhou Dynasty during with Chinese writing evolved. Casting a Circle The Purposes of a Circle A sacred circle has several purposes, the most significant of which is to define an area where formal ritual work can be performed. A circle is a place in which the rules and conditions are different to that of the everyday world. A circle is not a barrier, but a doorway to another world. To contain any magickal energy raised and to prevent its dissipation until it has been used up is another purpose of the circle. The sacred circle does not need to be physically represented (drawn or marked on the ground), it just needs to be visualized. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. This completes the casting of your circle. How to Close a Circle Go to the North, hold up your blade, and say, “Guardians and spirits of the North wind, my ritual is now complete. Extinguish your altar candles and bow your head at the altar, saying, “I declare this scared circle closed. What is Thou looking for?

The Sacred Geometry of Sound Sacred Geometry and the Structure of Music Legend recounts how Orpheus was given a lyre by Apollo. By playing his lyre, Orpheus produced harmonies that joined all of Nature together in peace and joy. Inspired by this Orphic tradition of music and science, Pythagoras of Samos conducted perhaps the world's first physics experiment. By plucking strings of different lengths, Pythagoras discovered that sound vibrations naturally occurred in a sequence of whole tones or notes that repeat in a pattern of seven. Like the seven naturally occurring colors of the rainbow, the octave of seven tones — indeed, all of Creation — is a singing matrix of frequencies that can be experienced as color, sound, matter, and states of consciousness. This correlation of sound, matter, and consciousness is important. I believe that this matrix of Creation is waiting for us to sound the most harmonious vibrating chord — to sound the universe itself into a perfect, idealized form. The Ancient City - Ancient History Encyclopedia In the study of the ancient world a City is generally defined as a large populated urban center of commerce and administration with a system of laws and, usually, regulated means of sanitation. This is only one definition, however, and the designation `City' can be based on such factors as the: population of the settlement height of buildings density of buildings/population presence of some kind of sewer system level of administrative government presence of walls and/or fortifications geographical area of the settlement or whether a `settlement' was called a `city' in antiquity and fits at least one of the above qualifications. In the ancient world, very often a `city' describes an urban center of dense population and a certain pattern of buildings spreading out from a central religious complex such as a temple (though, frustratingly, this could sometimes apply equally well to a `village' or `settlement'). The concept of the `urban revolution’, first identified by V. The First City
Bienvenue - Lieux-Sacrés Indus Valley Civilization The major sites of the Indus Valley Civilization imposed over modern borders The Indus Valley Civilization (IVC) was a Bronze Age civilization (3300–1300 BCE; mature period 2600–1900 BCE) extending from what today is northeast Afghanistan to Pakistan and northwest India (see map). Along with Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, it was one of three early civilizations of the Old World, and the most widespread among them, covering an area of 1.25 million km2. It flourished in the basins of the Indus River, one of the major rivers of Asia, and the now dried up Sarasvati River, which once coursed through northwest India and eastern Pakistan together with its tributaries flowed along a channel, presently identified as that of the Ghaggar-Hakra River on the basis of various scientific studies. The Harappan language is not directly attested and its affiliation is uncertain since the Indus script is still undeciphered. Discovery and history of excavation Chronology Geography Cities
New Zealand Maritime Museum: Waka According to the Tahitian story, the ancient king and voyager Tumu-nui listed eight dangers of the sea: long-wave, short-wave, isolated-coral-rock, fish-shoal, sea-monster, animal-with-burning-flesh, crane-empowered-by-Ta'aroa [the supreme god of creation], and giant-clam-opening-at-the-horizon. Tumu-nui’s nephew Rata succeeded in destroying six of these dangers so that only two remained – long wave and short wave. The early explorers of the Pacific Ocean would have faced the many dangers of the open sea, extreme weather, and the unknown of new territories in their journeys. The thirst for exploration and discovery, knowledge of the sea, and the courage to leave their home lands to seek others, meant these dangers were worth facing. Modern research places the origins of the Pacific peoples in Island South-East Asia. At the core of Pacific navigation was knowledge of the stars and their movements.
DMT Vaults : Extraction : QT's DMT Extraction Guide NOTE OF WARNING:QT's DMT Extraction for Students is archived by Erowid as a historical document. The process as described has been critiqued as flawed and dangerous several ways. Safer and more effective DMT extraction and purification techniques have been developed and made available in the years since the document below was created. For one such process, see Noman's "DMT for the Masses". Specific concerns regarding QT's tek, detailed below, were sent to Erowid on behalf of the community at The DMT Nexus, who note: "Time and time again, people have come to The DMT Nexus or other web forums because they were following QT's tek and it either didn't work or they ran into serious issues trying to follow it. Our largest concerns with QT's tek are related to health and safety. Health and Safety Concerns 1) The tek recommends using hydrochloric acid without appropriate guidance on safe handling. 3) The tek describes a method for obtaining ether from starting fluid. How the Ancient Romans Made Better Concrete Than We Do Now Kinja is in read-only mode. We are working to restore service. Concretes problem isn't the atmosphere (well not 100%, I'd say something like ~10% ish for the things you are talking about), it's the fact we use 1000s of 18-wheelers of 5+ tons each that damage the roads. Romans never had that sort of weight bearing down on their concrete, and the amounts of concrete we do see are the buildings, which, yes, us civil engineers do admire their ability to make an efficient enough concrete to have lasted this without needing reinforcing steel in it. There is also the fact that the majority of the Roman concrete we still see is around the Mediterranean, were the winters are never that cold and so the temperature range the concrete goes though is much narrower. Lastly, modern concrete *is* better than Roman concrete in the ways we use it today, namely compressive structures. Oh and the High Strength concrete we have today? Apologies for the long rant.
Ancient underwater cities being found that are 10,000 years old Lost city 'could rewrite history' By BBC News Online's Tom Housden The remains of what has been described as a huge lost city may force historians and archaeologists to radically reconsider their view of ancient human history. Marine scientists say archaeological remains discovered 36 meters (120 feet) underwater in the Gulf of Cambay off the western coast of India could be over 9,000 years old. The vast city - which is five miles long and two miles wide - is believed to predate the oldest known remains in the subcontinent by more than 5,000 years. Using sidescan sonar - which sends a beam of sound waves down to the bottom of the ocean they identified huge geometrical structures at a depth of 120ft. Debris recovered from the site - including construction material, pottery, sections of walls, beads, sculpture and human bones and teeth has been carbon dated and found to be nearly 9,500 years old. Lost civilization "Nothing else on the scale of the underwater cities of Cambay is known.
