Unspeakableness Investigation in Emotion Classification This is the early stage research of the project. In late January, 2012, I emailed around Royal College of Art asking for words describing emotions in languages other than English that are untranslatable into English. Interesting enough, in order to understand the untranslatable words I had to have several correspondence with the person who contributed the word, and through this back-and-forth discussion can I actually get the glimpse of the emotion itself. These explanation of the untranslatable words are often in the format of "it is a kind of (emotion A), close to (emotion B), and somehow between (emotion C) and (emotion D)." Not all porn is the same, its defenders say. People can choose what they like, and if they’re into violent stuff, that’s their business, right? It’s true that not all porn is the same, but the reality is that the majority of even the most mainstream porn is packed full of women being physically and verbally abused—and watching it takes a serious toll on the user. A few years ago, a team of researchers looked at the most popular porn films—the ones bought and rented most often. [1] From that group, they randomly picked 50 and analyzed them. Unlike violence in regular movies where someone gets punched, gets mad, and fights back, 95% of the victims of aggression in the porn scenes either were neutral or responded with pleasure. The SCP Foundation Salmon Run: Java Data Structure: A Generic Tree A few weeks ago, I was talking to another Java programmer who was once a C++ programmer. The conversation gravitated towards data structures, and about how C++ programmers need to consider the best data structure for their particular application and then figure out the best and most optimal way to build it, while Java programmers typically just choose the most optimal data structure for their application from the standard java.util library. In my opinion, this is both a good thing and a bad thing for Java programmers. Its good because you dont have to worry about implementing a Vector for each project (or remember which third party library to include or purchase), and its bad, because it makes you lazy. So lazy, in fact, that when the time comes to implement a data structure that is not available in the Java standard library, or cannot be synthesized by combining Maps and Lists, Java programmers are often at a loss for how to proceed.
