Learn the Basics of Photoshop in Under 25 Minutes
I'm a long time Photoshop user, but these days Adobe Lightroom handles 90% of my needs and I only go into Photoshop when I need to do things like composites, layer blending, warping, etc. I would recommend the much less expensive Lightroom for most people who just want to organize, adjust, print, and share photos... but even Lightroom is probably overkill unless you are a photography enthusiast. Lightroom can develop RAW files, convert to black & white (or alternative color processing), all your exposure adjustments, targeted adjustments, cloning out small objects like spots or trash, fixing red-eye, noise reduction, sharpening, image tagging and organization, and it has a handy uploader for quickly sharing your files via Facebook, Smugmug, Flickr, etc. These days if I am going into Photoshop it is usually to do something that goes beyond photography and into the realm of digital art.
