Playing With Pearltrees - A Great Way to Organize the Web Over the years I've written about a lot of social bookmarking services and mind-mapping services (I even co-authored a chapter of a book on mind-mapping). Pearltrees is a service that combines social bookmarking with mind-mapping. Using Pearltrees you can bookmark websites and arrange your bookmarks into webs or mind-maps of related topics. For example, this Pearltree contains links to stories, images, and videos about news from Libya. You can create as many Pearltrees as you like within your account. The video below provides a short overview of Pearltrees. Applications for EducationPearltrees could be a great tool for students to use to organize their web research according to topics or units of study in your courses.

What is Digital Citizenship? Creating awareness of what students are creating and doing online. GUEST COLUMN | by Melissa Davis Digital citizenship is a hot topic amongst educators and district leaders these days. In the last few years, many districts, specifically those who’ve implemented 1-to-1 or BYOD policies, are being increasingly mandated to incorporate digital citizenship lessons into their curricula. As one of the founders of a social, e-portfolio tool for students, I first heard the term digital citizenship three ago at an ISTE conference. These same teachers were getting reprimanded from their districts for bringing social networks such as Facebook or Twitter into the classroom because they were “unsafe”, and saw our platform as an ideal alternative to incorporate digital citizenship lessons around teaching students how to build a positive social profile. But as I started to think about it, Digital Citizenship education as a whole just made sense. Digital Commerce – Buying and selling goods online safely.

Reginald Brooks_Portfolio-New Media Index The separation of Art and Science is an artifice, that, while revealing some truths, ultimately is a disservice to the greater truths...and indeed there are degrees, or layers, of truth. Science, and specifically Physics and all its underlings...the subsets of Chemistry and Biology..., is, when both its goals of objectivity and its subjective reality are accounted for, really just a form of Art. A highly disciplined form of Art in which the subjective expression of an experience is given form.In Science, as witnessed by the "Scientific Method", we subjectively spell out a hypothesis...a question really...which we try to answer, i.e. prove or disprove by objective means. The better the science the better that a simple question is asked and answered with the least number of potential variables embedded.

Cyberbullying Of Teachers: How Do You Prevent This Growing Problem? | Newsanywhere Cyber bullying is an ever-present threat, and it’s a problem that has increased in recent years as social networking sites have become more popular. Now, we’re noticing a new trend emerging: Cyber bullying of teachers. A recent survey carried out by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers and the Teacher Support Network suggested that teachers are also increasingly at risk of being the victims of cyber bullies. The survey showed that as many as one in seven teachers have been cyber bullied in the past and of those, 68% had received unpleasant emails, 26% had been the victims of abuse on websites and 28% had received abuse text messages. The types of abuse has been shocking – ranging from teachers being filmed in class and the clip uploaded to YouTube, to Facebook hate groups and false Facebook profiles being created in the teacher’s name. The result of this abuse has meant that 25% of teachers felt their standard of teaching had been affected, according to the survey.
