The Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence (RBA) celebrates transformative urban places distinguished by their economic and social contributions to our nation’s cities. Winners offer creative placemaking solutions that transcend the boundaries between architecture, urban design and planning and showcase innovative thinking about American cities. One Gold Medal of $50,000 and four Silver Medals of $10,000 will be awarded. Projects must be a real place, not just a plan or a program, and be located in the 48 contiguous United States. Award winners may use prize money in any way that benefits the project. Each biennial award cycle is documented with detailed case studies about the winners and lessons learned about urban development in America.

Architectural design competition An architectural design competition is a type of competition in which an organization or government body that plans to construct a new building invites architects to submit a design proposal. The winning design is usually chosen by an independent panel of design professionals and stakeholders (such as government and local representatives). This procedure is often used to generate new ideas for the building design, to stimulate public debate, to generate publicity for the project, and to allow emerging designers the opportunity to gain exposure. Architecture competitions are often used to award commissions for public buildings: in some countries rules for tendering public building contracts stipulate some form of mandatory open architectural competition.[1] Winning first prize in a competition is not a guarantee that the project will be completed. History[edit]

Competitions The Architectural League organizes a number of competitions each year to nurture excellence, particularly among younger designers, and to explore ideas of topical note. Each year the League runs two prestigious programs for early and mid-career architects and designers: Emerging Voices, an invited competition for North American firms and individuals with distinct design voices and significant bodies of realized work; and the Architectural League Prize, a juried portfolio competition organized around a yearly theme for young architects and designers ten years or less out of school. The Deborah J. Norden Fund awards up to $5,000 annually in travel grants to students and recent graduates in the fields of architecture, architectural history, and urban studies. Folly is an annual opportunity to design, build, and exhibit a full-scale project around the theme of an architectural folly at Socrates Sculpture Park.
