Khan Academy Art and the Cultural Turn: Farewell to Committed, Autonomous Art? Irmgard Emmelhainz Nowadays, artists’ voices are thought to be important in giving shape to society, and art is considered to be useful. Moreover, the state, the private sector and society attribute to art a decisive political role as on the one hand, they invest in culture with the purpose generating political and economic surplus value. On the other hand, art and cultural practices are now part of the same network of strategies and questions as social movements are (this space is known as the “Infosphere”). In a context in which the creative, political, and mediatic fields are intrinsically linked, contemporary cultural practices point toward a new social order in which art has merged with life, privileging lived experience, collective communication and performative politics. In turn, the commodification of culture and its use as a resource—as well as the fusion of art, politics, and media—have had a significant impact in the way in which capitalist economies operate. 1. 2. 3. 4.

Poéticas/Políticas | Centro de Investigaciones Artísticas A lo largo del seminario, nos proponemos revisar una serie de experiencias de articulación entre arte y política que tuvieron lugar en Argentina y otros países de América Latina desde la década del 60 en adelante. Esta diversidad de “casos” comparte la voluntad por confrontar o incidir desde el arte sobre las condiciones de existencia, y por consiguiente la puesta en cuestión o el desbordamiento del límite convencional entre arte y no arte. En distintos contextos históricos y geopolíticos, estos movimientos sostuvieron posicionamientos explícitos que cuestionaron o redefinieron la noción instituida de “obra”, “arte”, “artista” a la vez que la concepción de lo “político” a través de diversos rumbos que conjugaron la experimentación y la radicalidad tanto poética como política. Pedagogías en red y prácticas instituyentes. | TRANSDUCTORES Temporadas 06-08: Cómo vivir juntos: La 27 Bienal de São Paulo - Jose Roca Algunos de estos cambios son estructurales, comenzando por un concurso para elegir el curador -en oposición al sistema anterior, en donde era designado por un comité-. Al instalar un proceso democrático y delegar en un jurado internacional la escogencia de los candidatos, la junta organizadora de la Bienal se sujetó a la decisión que tomara este grupo de expertos. Esto permitió la aparición de proyectos muy radicales; pues, como se trató de un concurso, los curadores invitados tuvieron la libertad de proponer cualquier cosa que consideraran pertinente, incluyendo el cuestionamiento de la estructura misma de la Bienal. El proyecto ganador fue el propuesto por la curadora e investigadora Lisette Lagnado, quien conformó un equipo internacional de curadores que incluyó a los también brasileños Cristina Freire y Adriano Pedrosa, la española Rosa Martínez, y quien escribe estas líneas. Otra novedad en esta Bienal es que no habrá lo que anteriormente se denominaba Núcleo Histórico. 2.
