Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard Macintosh O reviews Sneaking in a few days before its promised September release, the tune-up for Mac OS X Leopard costs $29 for current Leopard users, and packs just enough punch to be worth your money. Apple is careful to point out that Snow Leopard isn't a complete system overhaul, but rather a collection of hundreds of smaller refinements to make Leopard run more gracefully. Hidden among smaller tweaks are some technical improvements that result in a smoother, easier-to-use Leopard with plenty for Mac fans to be excited about. Even if you're not a current Leopard user, the $169 package that includes Snow Leopard, iLife, and iWork is a steal for the system upgrade and two of Apple's major software suites, not to mention the long-pined-after inclusion of Microsoft Exchange compatibility. Installation Installation of Snow Leopard is dead simple and (according to Apple) up to 45 percent faster than Leopard using a newly designed installer that asks only one question during the process.

Your First iPhone Application: What Next? Start Developing iOS Apps Today provides the perfect starting point for iOS development. On your Mac, you can create iOS apps that run on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. View this guide’s four short modules as a gentle introduction to building your first app—including the tools you need and the major concepts and best practices that will ease your path. The first three modules each end with a tutorial, where you’ll implement what you’ve learned. At the end of the last tutorial, you’ll have created a simple to-do list app. After you’ve built your first app in this guide and are considering your next endeavor, read the fourth module. Even though this guide takes you through every step of building a simple app, to benefit most it helps to be acquainted with computer programming in general and with object-oriented programming in particular. Get the Tools Before you can start developing great apps, set up a development environment to work in and make sure you have the right tools. Tutorial: Basics

iPhone SDK Tutorial: Build a Simple RSS reader for the iPhone With this I’m assuming you have a bit of familiarity with the iPhone SDK – you can download it for free from Apple’s site, and follow along here. We’re going to build an RSS feed reader for a simple feed (from The Apple Blog, no less). Let’s get started Open Xcode and choose the “File” menu, in which you’ll click the “New Project…” item.Click “Application” under “iPhone OS” in the list at left.On the right, choose “Navigation-Based Application”. Then click the “Choose…” button. You’ll be prompted to pick a name and location. The Xcode project window will appear, with the standard 3 panes – I recommend pulling the horizontal divider on the right side all the way to the top, since you’ll need that editor area and all the real estate you can give it. The project template that Apple provides has a lot of things already set up to get us started. Click once on “RootViewController.h” in the list, and see the code on the right. Next up, modify the method below the one you just changed, like so:

Diigo: a match made in SHEEN Sharing heaven? « SHEEN Sharing I spent some time this week digging deeper into Diigo, to see if it is as close a fit to SHEEN Sharing requirements as it looked at first. It’s certainly very promising, and I’d like to show it to the ECN in detail soon and recommend it as the way forward for the core work of the SHEEN Sharing project. Diigo is like a next generation Delicious: it’s social bookmarking with the ability to also append comments and discussions on resources to the resources links, and to highlight and comment on sections of resources you’ve linked to. This post goes into a bit more detail about how all this actually works, with special reference to how SHEEN Sharing might use it. Web-based social bookmarking Delicious is the widely used tool for this: instead of saving your favourites or bookmarks in your browser, you save them to your account on the website; this way, it doesn’t matter what computer you are on, you can always access them. Diigo is a next-generation social bookmarking site. Diigo lists
