As the Communist revolutionaries desired to leave no trace of the royal family they were also believed to have killed three of their beloved pets. However, it has now been revealed how the execution squad took pity on one dog, Joy, and allowed him to survive. Joy lost his sight, would barely eat, and would seem constantly to be searching for his master. Joy was eventually re-homed with Pavel Rodzianko, a soldier in the British Army, who brought him back to England when the British were expelled from Russia. A shortwave radio is specially designed receiver that receives shortwave radio stations from places and countries far away from where you live and are "hidden" in between the standard AM and FM band on frequencies from about 3Mhz to 30Mhz. Some are located within the U.S. but most are located in many other countries around the world. If you live in the U.S., you can easily listen to stations broadcasting from foreign countries like, Radio Australia, Radio Cuba, Swiss Radio International, Deutsche Welle (Germany), Radio Netherlands, Voice of Free China, Radio China International, Radio Japan and many other countries if you have a good shortwave receiver! These international stations transmit on bands called World Band Radio or "shortwave". Note that the BBC World Service ceased transmitting on short wave to North America and Australia in 2001 and to South America in 2005.
