Eight Questions To Ask Before You Start A Business Are you thinking of starting a web business? Starting a PPC Management agency? Setting up your own site and selling things, or building a web publishing empire? Before you start, ask yourself the following eight questions. 1 . Define what service the business provides. Try to focus. McDonalds could, no doubt, provide up-market meals, but they focus on selling quick, cheap food. That is what they do. 2. Who are your customers? Create a mental image of your typical customer. 3. What is your unique selling proposition? If your customers can buy the same services for less elsewhere, or more easily, they will. There is a tendency to model yourself on others. This is not to say doing something wildly new or different is any guarantee of success. 4. This point is so important, it really should be number one. Businesses may have great ideas. Then the bank manager calls. The overdraft has hit its limit and you can’t meet payroll this week. There is no fooling cashflow. 5. 6. 7. Set company goals. 8.

Ear Training WebSite Upward Compression Using Multiband Dynamics Upward compression is another one of those techniques that most producers don’t know about or think about, but can be really effective in certain circumstances. This Ableton Live tutorial shows how to use Multiband Dynamics to bring up the low volume parts in a bus with multiple sounds, instead of cutting down the peaks. If there’s a quiet sound in a track or bus that you want to bring up and bring forward, upward compression can be a more effective way of helping it pop out versus bringing down the peaks with traditional compression. How To Make a Digital Album Unique: Generate a New One With Every Download Despite what the recording industry may say, it doesn’t matter how many times you copy a digital file — nothing about the original is being “stolen” as a result of the duplication. In some ways, it’s great that physical media has given way to digital distribution: Expenses have shrunk to the cost of maintaining a website or allowing a digital marketplace to have a cut of the profits. But if digital files are identical and can be infinitely replicated, how can they still be worth anything? A clever answer has recently come from one electronic music ensemble: Make music that generates differently every time it’s downloaded. Limited to 1,000 iterations, downloads of “Fake Fish Distribution,” a new album from London-based electronic group Icarus, aren’t “copies” at all: Each purchase generates a unique version of the album based on an algorithm written by the group’s members. Excepts from Edition 500 / 1000 of Icarus’ generative album “Fake Fish Distribution”

The Problem With Music Whenever I talk to a band who are about to sign with a major label, I always end up thinking of them in a particular context. I imagine a trench, about four feet wide and five feet deep, maybe sixty yards long, filled with runny, decaying shit. I imagine these people, some of them good friends, some of them barely acquaintances, at one end of this trench. Every major label involved in the hunt for new bands now has on staff a high-profile point man, an "A&R" rep who can present a comfortable face to any prospective band. Lyle Preslar, former guitarist for Minor Threat, is one of them. These A&R guys are not allowed to write contracts. One of my favorite bands was held hostage for the better part of two years by a slick young "He's not like a label guy at all," A&R rep, on the basis of such a deal memo. There's this band... There's this band. They conclude the evening by taking home a copy of a deal memo they wrote out and signed on the spot. Back to Action Park
