Hexágono en Saturno .En Noviembre de 2006, la misión espacial Cassini-Huygens, tras casi 10 años de viaje, estuvo suficientemente cerca de Saturno como para captar imágenes infrarojas de sus polos. El resultado fueron imágenes de una geometría inesperada: Al acercarse al polo norte del planeta, las nubes de la atmósfera exterior trazan un hexágono de 25 mil km -casi 4 veces la tierra-, que gira sobre su propio eje. en sincronía con el planeta. El fenómeno ya había sido identificado por la Voyager 1, en 1980, pero hasta el 2006 se confirmó como algo persistente. Desde hace mucho tiempo se sabe, y aquí mismo lo mencionamos hace poco, que las ondas de sonido pueden ordenar partículas, como granos de arena, en patrones geométricos muy precisos. A la ciencia que estudia la formación de esos patrones se le llama cimática. Esto es relevante sólo porque la Sonda Cassini captó ondas de radio provenientes del planeta que podrían ser, en opinion del Dr.

El hexágono de Saturno recreado en laboratorio Uno de mis primeros artículos trataba sobre el hexágono de Saturno. En él bromeaba sobre su origen, dudando entre si era de origen extraterrestre o si en cambio era un anuncio interplanetario del holding Rumasa. El cienciakanija hace unos días aparecía la traducción de un artículo de Science en el que unos científicos de la Universidad de Oxford en el Reino Unido habían conseguido reproducir la forma hexagonal del polo de Saturno, recurriendo al mismo mecanismo que utilizaban en el Niels Bohr Institute que indicaba en mi artículo. Os dejo un estracto de la traducción de Ciencia Kanija.
