Making of Yuka

Making of Yuka
Introduction After receiving some positive feedback to my last work “yuka” I decided to write a detailed tutorial about creating process. My main goal was to create a painting which was really detailed. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to do it without a real photograph so I started to look for something that would interest me and make me want to spent a lot of hours painting it in photoshop. And I found a perfect picture on . Tools For this work I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. Preparation I had to decide with what resolution I want to work. Sketch I start with creating a sketch in order to define the shapes, which will be later filled in with colours . I like keeping everything simple so I will use these brush settings through the whole creating process.

Digital Painting Steps - Adobe Photoshop Tutorial Let's take a walkthrough of one of my digital paintings done in adobe photoshop. The brushes and exact methods used throughout were not recorded but I will make general comments on each step if applicable. The original reference for this painting was a photo taken by Epoxy5. This tutorial assumes a comfortable level of proficiency with adobe photoshop and the brush settings, and a minimum Photoshop version of 7 or higher. I will try to include the keyboard shortcuts whenever possible but, GraphicJunkies has a great free download for all the common photoshop keyboard shortcuts. 1. I like to block in color areas, getting a rough idea of the hues I want to use. 4. 5. 6.

Targete's NEWS whitenoise » Blog Archive » Digital Painting tutorial – Jean Grey Phoenix This is probably the longest post that I have ever posted, and by probably I mean it is. Anyway this tutorial was originally supposed to be published in SKETCH! magazine. I was contacted to do a tutorial so I put this together but for some reason it was left on the shelf at SKETCH! and never published. But hey that doesn’t mean I can’t share it now so here it is! Programs such as Photoshop and Painter offer a whole new world of tools for artists to explore. I find too often that people are afraid to simply commit when painting digitally. Before we begin, I should mention that this tutorial was created using Photoshop CS2 and assumes you have an intermediate understanding of the program. Ok enough of the tech talk and introduction let’s get to work. Step 1 the line art and preparation First things first, I suggest always starting off with a tight drawing. The initial wash done with a multiply layer A blank white canvas can be a scary thing. Roughly blocking in local color

APB Whistler Step by Step by ~arnistotle Painting Jake Sully Avatar When I saw the James Cameron 'Avatar' movie for the first time I was very surprised. I've seen it 2 more times. The visual effects are amazing. So I decide to pay a small tribute and began to make a fan art of its protagonist, Jake Sully. Step 1 - This time I started doing two pencil drawings on paper. Step 2 - To have a complete understanding of the color, I filled with flat colors on a Photoshop layer in multiply mode on the top of the drawing. Step 3 - Once I was clear about the color palette, I began to paint the background in a fairly 'traditional' way. Turn a Picture of Your Face into a Glamorous Digital Painting - Photoshop Tutorial Step 1 To start softening the hair you need to have in mind: - How to use the smudge tool properly (this includes changing shape, hardness and strength and adequate them to the piece you're working on); - To delimit parts of the hair that invisibly form a line shape (pieces of the hair); - Smudging pieces at a time, not all at once; If you're not so good with those, it's not a big deal, just keep reading. If by other side you're completely new to the matter, it may be a little difficult for you. So to star0, download a stock with a pretty good amount of hair that hasn't been manipulated yet. Step 2 To make it clear about what i mean with hair's pieces check the image below. Don't forget, they're not exactly precise, feel free to adjust the limits to your own preference. Step 3 Having in mind the second piece i indicated on the last step, select the smudge tool with diameter around 40-45, hardness 70% and strength at 35%. Painting a Landscape Here a small tutorial which will enable you to paint in Photoshop a basic landscape which could be thereafter detailed. The tools essential with its realization will be the brushes and their settings. In a new document, whose size is 1900 X 900 pixels we will first paint the sky. Sky - On two separate layers, paints with a hard brush - a blue color and a yellow color with orange tint on other. It should be known everything on distant is contrasted much less than what is in the foreground. Tutorials Step 1: Line art I've always been fascinated by realism, and because of this it is really important to me that the base line-art sketch has got proper proportions. I usually use the old trick by putting a grid on top of a reference photo I've shot, and then I copy the same grid onto a blank canvas and start drawing grid by grid from what I see on the reference photo. Step 2: Blocking in, and grey scale shading Once I have the line art version ready, I delete the layer with the grid, and then I make another layer behind the line art drawing which I fill with one grey scale colour using a hard brush. Now I start shading with grey scale tones only by looking closely at the reference photo. Step 3: Brush usage Personally I really like using hard edged brushes as they resemble the traditional brushes in both the way of working and when it comes to the result. next page >

Tutorials One day, on my way to work I decided to make a small detour on my way to the subway and took a walk through one of Lisbon's most charismatic parks. It was a cold February morning, no one was in sight and the sound of morning traffic was subdued by the trees. I was immersed into a natural environment and it almost seemed magical. Suddenly, I passed by some trees that really caught my attention ( image 1 ). They somehow resembled groping hands and with their scale, they looked threatening. I believe it is my love for fantasy that made me see the tree like that and not as mere tree. Fig. 01 At the time I still wasn't sure what I wanted to portray. My initial sketches were done on plain A4 photocopy paper and they were quite small. Fig. 02 Fig. 03 Fig. 04 next page >
