Q u’est ce qui est plus awesome qu’un robot géant ? "Je sais, je sais ! Deux robots géants !" Euh oui mais non, c’est de la tric… "Non ! Mais bon sang vous êtes pénibles saletés de voix intérieures !! Du coup, quand j’ai appris que Guillermo Del Toro travaillait sur un blockbuster plein de monstres de métal de trouzmilles mètres de haut qui tabassent d’autres monstres mais pas de métal, ma première réaction a été la terreur abjecte !! L’adaptation ciné de Bioshock s’annonce prometteuse ! Heureusement, sur ce point, je me trompais. Ces pépites de caca seront-elles suffisantes pour que tout le film ait un goût de mairde ? Pacific Rim, la critique pourrie L e film démarre au fond de l’océan Pacifique où une étrange faille est en train de s’ouvrir. Voix-Off : Le premier monstre géant qui est sorti de la faille nous a quand même sacrément mis la misère ! S’ensuit un petit cours de vocabulaire. Faut avouer, niveau prophétie, ça a plus de gueule qu’un bouquin de Nostradamus ! Goldorak Autolargue !!

Murderous robots and AI, scientific experiments run amok, oppressive regimes, the elite vs. the masses, hostile aliens, and gritty dystopias—these aren't just the realm of the last few decades, they've been around much longer. There are newer themes, like the virtual reality of The Matrix, some happier visions, like Star Trek, and a few more nuanced takes, like Her. But as a whole, future generations may view our science fiction as largely symptomatic of human anxiety during a time of rapid change. And from Hunger Games to Elysium to Interstellar, we're as anxious as ever. Science fiction is a way to explore the ethical implications and worst-case scenarios of our technological capabilities.
