Water Tank Engineering with Newspaper, Part 1 - Vista Think MYP Design Cycle – Getting Started In July of 2015, I taught my first design unit in grade: water tank engineering from newspaper. Middle school design teachers and colleagues Jessie M. and Angie U. created the first version of the unit. It was intended to be an introduction to MYP Design and the MYP Design Cycle via a hands-on and easy-to-comprehend engineering problem. This unit was also my first experience with Year 1 (grade 6) MYP Design. I was expecting a greater emphasis on rapid prototyping and concerned about a loss of engagement by students. After completing the unit the first time, I see now that I had begun to appreciate the sequential guidance and reliable authority of the four-part MYP Design Cycle.
