Stopping phishing campaigns with bash A few days ago my wife got a text message that was obviously a bad phishing attempt I spun up a VM and took a look at the website it linked to, which is (almost like the real domain but with a typo) and of course it was just a copy of a banks login form that had only one change made to it. The way these things work is that they act like they're the real login form, steal your credentials and usually send you off to the real bank so you think you made a typo or something. These phishing backends are usually very simple PHP scripts that just take the data from the submitted form and save them to a file. The phishers then sell them via hidden services (trying real hard not to use the bullshit term darknet here). If the phishers didn't think too hard about getting garbage data you can have a little fun and poison their loot with fake logins.

Some Ugly Code Can Get NVIDIA's Linux Driver Working With Accelerated XWayland Red Hat's Adam Jackson has been working on "GLX Delay" as a means of offering accelerated GLX with OpenGL for XWayland when using the NVIDIA proprietary driver. The proposed code is going through Mesa even though it's for the proprietary NVIDIA driver benefit and also requires a change to the OpenGL Vendor Neutral Dispatch Library (libglvnd). This work-in-progress code does allow the likes of glxgears and glxinfo to now successfully run on XWayland with the NVIDIA proprietary driver. Adam prominently noted, "due to the design of this approach the actual GL rendering part should be about as fast as it is against Xorg, or against EGL on the bare metal, so in principle this can eventually be just as performant as it is with Xorg." So while it's nice for NVIDIA binary Linux gamers wanting accelerated XWayland support, this code is quite a bit hacky and does some wrangling so it will work without changes to the NVIDIA proprietary driver.

SpaceSniffer, find lost disk space the easy way. SpaceSniffer is a freeWare (donations are welcome) and portable tool application that lets you understand how folders and files are structured on your disks. By using a Treemap visualization layout, you have immediate perception of where big folders and files are placed on your devices. Treemap concept was invented by Prof. Ben Shneiderman, who kindly permitted the use of his concept into this tool. Start a scan process and see the overall situation. Bigger are the elements on the view, bigger are folders and files on your disk.

Chip and Skim: cloning EMV cards with the pre-play attack September 10th, 2012 at 19:25 UTC by Mike Bond November last, on the Eurostar back from Paris, something struck me as I looked at the logs of ATM withdrawals disputed by Alex Gambin, a customer of HSBC in Malta. Comparing four grainy log pages on a tiny phone screen, I had to scroll away from the transaction data to see the page numbers, so I couldn’t take in the big picture in one go.
