Google Thinking About Replacing Java with Apple's Swift for Android Last December, about the same time when Apple was busy announcing that its Swift programming language was going open-source at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), representatives from Google, Facebook, and Uber were having a secret meeting somewhere in London about Swift's future, TNW reports, citing an inside source. The source said that the three companies talked about ways to use this new programming language, now that it was out in the open under an open license and away's from Apple's closed environment. While Facebook and Uber were more interested in how Swift could be used on servers (yes, Swift can run server-side), Google was exploring the idea of replacing Oracle's Java as the language behind its Android mobile operating system.

Pienaar (@ripienaar) Many blog posts have been written about what DevOps is or what it means to specific people. While these blog posts are fantastic and well worth reading, there still seems to be a lot of misconception around its meaning. I’d like to point out some of the misconceptions people have about DevOps. IntelliJ IDEA History[edit] The first version of IntelliJ IDEA was released in January 2001, and was one of the first available Java IDEs with advanced code navigation and code refactoring capabilities integrated.[3][4] System requirements[8][edit] Features[edit] Xamarin Launches Test Cloud Automated Mobile UI Testing Platform, Acquires Mobile Test Company LessPainful Xamarin, the company behind the cross-platform mobile development platform with the same name, today announced that it has recently acquired the Danish mobile testing startup LessPainful. LessPainful is the company behind the popular open source cross-platform functional test platform for Android and iOS, and Xamarin has already put this acquisition to use. The Xamarin Test Cloud, the automated user interface testing platform the company launched at its Evolve 2013 developer conference in Austin today, is based on Calabash. Test Cloud is a pretty ingenious product that solves a real problem for mobile developers. It allows users to easily write user interface tests and then see how their apps perform on real-world devices.

Abstract Classes and Methods (Java in a Nutshell) In Example 3-4, we declared our Circle class to be part of a package named shapes. Suppose we plan to implement a number of shape classes: Rectangle, Square, Ellipse, Triangle, and so on. We can give these shape classes our two basic area() and circumference() methods. Now, to make it easy to work with an array of shapes, it would be helpful if all our shape classes had a common superclass, Shape. If we structure our class hierarchy this way, every shape object, regardless of the actual type of shape it represents, can be assigned to variables, fields, or array elements of type Shape. We want the Shape class to encapsulate whatever features all our shapes have in common (e.g., the area() and circumference() methods).

Wrike Launches A Mobile Gantt Chart With Syncing So Everyone Can See The Latest Updates Wrike has added a type of chart that most seasoned project managers depend on for their work. It’s called a Gantt chart and it’s used to visualize projects in a way that a standard calendar lacks. Wrike is built on top of a real-time collaboration platform with syncing capability, allowing updates to the Gantt chart across the browser or mobile app, or via one of the company’s email plugins. The Gantt chart lets people visualize the schedule, change it and create and assign tasks from there, said Andrew Filev, CEO and founder, in an interview yesterday.

Lambda Expressions (The Java™ Tutorials > Learning the Java Language > Classes and Objects) One issue with anonymous classes is that if the implementation of your anonymous class is very simple, such as an interface that contains only one method, then the syntax of anonymous classes may seem unwieldy and unclear. In these cases, you're usually trying to pass functionality as an argument to another method, such as what action should be taken when someone clicks a button. Lambda expressions enable you to do this, to treat functionality as method argument, or code as data. The previous section, Anonymous Classes, shows you how to implement a base class without giving it a name. Although this is often more concise than a named class, for classes with only one method, even an anonymous class seems a bit excessive and cumbersome. Lambda expressions let you express instances of single-method classes more compactly.
