I have a particularly tragic memory of looking at rental houses with my friend when he first moved to LA and finding one that actually had an avocado tree in the backyard. I mean, a tree that was taller than the house and was heavy with ripe avocados This memory is tragic because my friend didn’t rent the house. If he had, I would have had a never ending supply to feed my avocado addiction.BTW – what are avocados, a vegetable? Some weird fruit? Either way, I really, really, REALLY love these…veggie-fruits from heaven. Let’s count the ways, shall we? Tagged as: Aioli, Appetizer, Avocado, Fries

Mozilla Firefox From the molten yolk and bacon crunch of a hand-held breakfast, to the gooey charm of grilled cheese for lunch, nothing matches the simple pleasures of well-made sandwiches. They're quick to assemble, infinitely adaptable, easy to eat, and immediately satisfying—the very definition of good food. The 25 sandwiches you're about to meet can be thrown together during the average basketball halftime or, with practice, during the seventh-inning stretch. (Who needs hot dogs, anyway?) 100 Ways to Cook a Sweet Potato Potato….. Potaahto….. Who cares? Just make sure it’s sweet. The health benefits of this tuber are well documented and it has become somewhat of a hip veggie recently.

No Grease Crispy Sweet Potato Fries « ~ Mary ~ I’ve been gearing up for our Burger Extravaganza it starts June 1st. So what do you serve with those burgers? Cinnamon and Vanilla Walnuts These nuts are slightly sweet and salty and laced with cinnamon and vanilla. I’ve made candied nuts quite a bit in the past, but I love this newest recipe. It’s not as sweet, so I like them better for snacking on or for putting in salads. They add just the right amount of sweet and saltiness to a salad.

Baked Tofu Recipe with Soy and Sesame This Easy Baked Tofu with Sesame and Soy Sauce is delicious and also makes great leftovers! I had such good success when I tried a recipe for stir-fried tofu, I vowed I would cook it again soon, so this is my second tofu adventure. The recipe is adapted from a basic recipe for baking tofu in Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, and once again I was thrilled with how this turned out. Homemade French Fries Why there is no need to purchase pre-made fries in the freezer aisle – in pictures and rhyme: One potato (find a potato) Two potato (cut the ends off) Three potato (cut slices) Four (cut fries from slices)

How to Make Pizza Without Dough I was getting kind of sick of ordering delivery pizza (this happens at least 2-3 times a month). It was time to put a spin on gourmet pizza, but I just didn't know what it would be. Without pizza dough or an oven that is capable of creating the perfect pizza crust (I don't have an oven that can go up to a 1000 degrees), I decided I would use potatoes instead. Cauliflower Crust Pizza & Stick a Fork in It I came across this cauliflower crust pizza on Pinterest, and was instantly intrigued. A low-carb pizza? Sign me up! I was skeptical, of course, but curious enough to try it and see how it tasted. I was pleasantly surprised by the results.

Homemade Crispy Potato Tots (Tater Tots) Homemade Crispy Potato Tots (Tater Tots) I went to a Sonic Drive In for the first time a few weeks ago and was surprised to see that they served tater tots. I just had to order some, and believe me I enjoyed every last tot. I knew then and there that I needed to make a homemade version in my own kitchen. So when the recent issue of Cook’s Country arrived in the mail, this recipe was the first one I bookmarked. French Fries: The No-Guilt Version There’s nothing like a french fried potato. The taste, the texture, the dip-ability; it’s probably one of my favorite go-to comfort foods. However, I don’t need the fat of an actual deep fried potato, and I certainly do not favor processed french fries that come from the frozen food section of the grocery store. Enter: Healthy French Fries* Step 1: Peel your ‘taters. This isn’t necessary, though, but if you decide you want the skin on make sure you scrub-wash them first.

Sweet Potato and Black Bean Burritos After the brunchtime porkapalooza we experienced on Sunday, you’d think a weeklong moratorium on meat wouldn’t be unwelcome. Halfway through this delightful, nutrient-packed burrito, we both agreed a little pulled pork would be exquisite, tucked cozily between sweet potatoes and savory black beans. Not that I mind rocking a vegetarian burrito for dinner, on occasion. It is so reminiscent to me of being a starving student in Allston, Mass in 1998, when I lived in an apartment full of crazy, smart, strange girls and boys. There was a lot of electronic music, a lot of art on the walls, a lot of pretentious dialogue, and very little money.
