Take a peek at these 10 animal myths and discover which ones are actually true and which are merely urban legend. 10. An Elephant Never Forgets This expression likely stemmed from the fact that the elephant has the biggest brain of all land animals — and apparently, the bigger the mass, the better the memory. Terence Trent D’arby sang about crocodile tears in his hit song “Wishing Well,” but the phrase that implies expressing fake emotion actually comes from an ancient fable that crocodiles weep while both luring and killing their prey. 8.

Their strong connection to Mother Earth are nothing short of how we should follow by their examples. One of the greatest teachings of America's indigenous people is that of the animal totems, their medicine, and spirit guides. Just as there are many religions for different faiths and cultures throughout the world, each individual tribe reveres their animal totems and spirit guides in their own way as well. Many tribes including Lakota, Seneca, Choctaw, Yaqui, Cheyenne, Cherokee, Aztec, and Mayan have been fortunate to have their elders hand down their teachings and traditions, however, because of the diversity of these traditions, we have only had a fraction of the deep understanding that is needed to live with this system of divine creation. Weird Cat Behaviors Explained Why do cats lick our heads or hair? My husband and I had a cat who loved to lick our heads, especially when we were fresh out of the shower. It turns out that it's a fairly common behavior, and there are a few reasons cats do it. Mother cats lick and groom their kittens, and adult cats remember this experience. If cats feel close to each other, one will often groom the other as a way of saying, "You're part of my group." Why do some cats suck on fabric? This is often called "wool sucking," because wool seems to be the material of choice. For adult cats, this is usually another type of obsessive compulsive disorder. If your cat is ingesting material (of it you're just tired of finding your blankets wet from cat saliva), you can try to break your cat of the habit by distracting her when you catch her suckling.

ARKive - Discover the world's most endangered species Wildscreen's Arkive project was launched in 2003 and grew to become the world's biggest encyclopaedia of life on Earth. With the help of over 7,000 of the world’s best wildlife filmmakers and photographers, conservationists and scientists, Arkive.org featured multi-media fact-files for more than 16,000 endangered species. Freely accessible to everyone, over half a million people every month, from over 200 countries, used Arkive to learn and discover the wonders of the natural world. Since 2013 Wildscreen was unable to raise sufficient funds from trusts, foundations, corporates and individual donors to support the year-round costs of keeping Arkive online. Therefore, the charity had been using its reserves to keep the project online and was unable to fund any dedicated staff to maintain Arkive, let alone future-proof it, for over half a decade. Therefore, a very hard decision was made to take the www.arkive.org website offline in February 2019.
