Flip-Flop Refashion: Part 1 (Braided Straps)

Summer is great. And warm. And full of outdoor activities and trips to the pool and random walks around the neighborhood. I love it. And my shoe of choice for these warmer months?? Sandals, of course. So, I saw a tutorial for this flip-flop makeover (great work Mother Huddle), floating around the web…….and the wheels started turning. I decided to just string all of the ideas together and create a whole series. First up? A quick and easy flip flop…….made with some braided knit fabric scraps, using the 5 strand braiding technique, shown here. These soft braided straps streeeeeetch the perfect amount, right around the back of my heel……..keeping the flip-flop snug and in place. I added little loops of fabric to the sides, to keep the braided straps in place. These little sandals are so light, they’re soft and stretchy, and my favorite part……..they’re inexpensive. ($2.50 to be exact) These flip-flops make me think of the beach……and make me miss GA. I guess I better find a sandy spot at the lake.

Mod Podge Shoes My husband jokes every time I get the bottle of Mod Podge out that I’m going to Mod Podge fabric to our computer keys or Mod Podge our kids clothing to their bodies. Hey, don’t tempt me. I know, I may go a little overboard with this stuff…….but I just had to try it on some shoes. Originally, I saw the idea on a site my sister showed me. And the lady Mod Podged starburst wrappers to some shoes. It was cute…….but I wanted to try fabric. Simple Bow Hair Clips (with no-slip grip) When my oldest girl was a brand new baby (who is now almost 5 years old), I made bows for her head/hair. Lots of them. I got a little tired of telling people that she was a girl, not a boy. Anthro-Inspired Mirror You all know we love a good Anthropologie knockoff around here – so a couple of days ago when I was browsing online I came across this mirror. Oh I definitely need that. Hold the presses – did that say $498??? Huh. We can do better than that. :)

Re-purposing: Tshirts into 5-strand-braided-headbands I was walking through Target a few weeks ago and noticed this little knit fabric headband that was not just braided together…….but woven. I decided they were charging way too much for something that could be made with t-shirt scraps. And that means free. So there you have it. A nice and easy project to give my bad-hair-day head some love. Revamp old T-shirt into Cute Bra Strap! Yay! I saw a lot of T-shirt yarn projects in the blog land recently, So, Why not? T-shirt yarn for bracelet and necklace are some really cute projects, Flip-Flop Refashion: Part 3 (Ruffled T-Strap) Are you tired of flip flips yet? Hang in there…….because I’m not. :) I keep finding new colors of $2 flip-flops, cutting them apart, and making new straps and styles with fabric scraps and doo-dads that I have at home. DIY Sharpie Dinnerware Update: I am so excited that so many people are loving and trying this project! Please note that as I do not have a dishwasher in my home, I have not personally been able to test washing my pieces in a dishwasher. To date, I have had zero issues washing my pieces with normal dish soap and a soft cloth. Green...Easy Knit Produce Bag Green…can mean more than one thing. There is green the color. And green, as in environmentally friendly. Today I am combining those two meanings into one with the: I made my reusable produce bag out of an old knit T-shirt. Slippers Japanese take the shoes off in the personal house to keep out soil dust. In the winter, we need the warm and clean slippers. We call them "room shoes". Fleece shoe lined with furry fabric. The sole is leather.

A shrinky plastic project Readymade magazine sent me a sample of their shrinky sheets awhile back (you know—that Shrinky Dink stuff from when you were a kid). And I've finally gotten around to trying them out. I know I'm going to make Readymade very happy when I say this, but OH MY GOSH, IT'S SO FUN! I used some of my own designs (you might see more soon; stay tuned!)

The Knot So Hard Flip Flip Flop Diy Oh I am so excited about this project! Any DIY that takes less than 30 minutes is worth getting excited about, no? These flip flops are so easy, and so so comfortable. DIY backpack Supplies: 1 yard of durable fabric I used faux leather for the bottom... 1/2 a yard for the liner. drawstring, anything for closure I always have my hands full with my little boys on each hand. I love backpacks and wanted to create one that would be functional and fit my style.
