The Pastry Affair - Home - Garlic Parmesan Pull-Apart&Bread I once made the driest pancake in the world. I can see you sitting at home, staring at your computer screen, and scoffing at my bold statement. Driest pancake in the world? Yeah, right. How would you even know? But this is the truth, my friends. Let me share my story with you. A few years back, I made chocolate chip pancakes. Quickly flash to the next morning. Still cold. Confusion. Was the microwave broken? I got angry, as one will when they want food and want it now. When I took it out, the pancake was slightly less cool. It took me a few hours to realize what had happened. It only stands to reason that my pancake was so utterly dry that there wasn't enough water in it to be absorbed by the microwaves. Thus, the world's driest pancake was born. And to think I took a bite... Luckily, this Garlic Parmesan Pull-Apart Bread is definitely not dry. Brazilian Lemonade This is my most favorite drink. Ever. Maybe I’d feel differently if I drank (as in alcohol), but there is nothing I love more than a warm, breezy afternoon and a pitcher of Brazilian lemonade. I didn’t try it for a long, long time because I was very put off by putting sweetened condensed milk in with citrus fruit. It starts off with fresh, juicy limes. You pop them in a blender with some sugar water and pulse just a few times. Pour the mixture from the blender through a strainer and into a pitcher, thus saving all of the flavorful liquid. Then the secret ingredient: sweetened condensed milk. Brazilian LemonadeOur Best Bites Ingredients: 4 juicy limes (try and find ones with thin, smooth skins; they’re the juiciest and the thin skin cuts down on the chance of your drink being bitter) 1 c. sugar 6 c. cold water 6 Tbsp. sweetened condensed milk Instructions: Mix cold water and sugar very well and chill until ready to use. Place 1/2 of the limes in your blender.

The Hazel Bloom: The Best Macaroni and Cheese Recipe Ever I can say this is the best macaroni and cheese recipe ever because it's not really my recipe. I tweaked it a tiny bit - basically made it even more fattening - but otherwise, it's someone else's. It's from someone named Bev, who posted her recipe on Recipezaar and to whom I am eternally grateful. See, macaroni and cheese is pretty much my all-time favorite food. One of my first-ever memories is of sitting down in front of the TV with a bowl full of macaroni and cheese and watching Emergency! I should probably stop there. So back to Bev. Bev is probably totally creeped out now too. I'm a total freakfest today. Oh - and this recipe is great with many noodles other than macaroni (like penne, yum!) Okay, I'm shutting up now. (Conchiglie pasta - this organic Montebello stuff is out of this world:) Here's the recipe! Adapted from the Bev's Macaroni and Cheese recipe on Recipezaar Serves 5 - 6 Ingredients 8 oz. to 10 oz. macaroni or other pasta (like conchiglie!) Instructions

And before you start, you may want to read these helpful tips sent in by a listener in Chicago. 1) Make the 7X flavor. Combine those with 8 ounces of food grade alcohol. 2) Make your fluid extract of coca. 3) Make the syrup. Several Notes: -- If you do not want to make several gallons of the syrup, you can adjust the recipe by reducing all ingredients by the same rate -- one half the original amount, one quarter, and so on. -- You might want to cut down on the caffeine. -- Some ingredients are measured in fluid ounces, others are measured in ounces by weight.

The Brownie Project Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes Recipe As I mentioned on Friday, I have been doing some experimentation with the beer and chocolate combination. The Guinness-chocolate ice cream that I made totally kicked butt, so I couldn’t wait to see how I liked beer and chocolate in my cake. The answer? These cupcakes consist of a Guinness-chocolate cake base, which has a wonderful depth of flavor and is also supremely moist. While you can’t really taste the beer in the cupcakes (it serves as more of a flavor enhancer for the chocolate), you can definitely taste the alcohol in the filling and the frosting. I think I need to start converting more drinks into baked goods, this was too much fun (and way delicious!). Two year ago: Sour Cream Coffee CakeThree years ago: Pot Roast in the Crock Pot Yield: 24 cupcakesPrep Time: 40 minutesCook Time: 17 minutesTotal Time: 1 hour Guinness cupcakes with a Jameson whiskey ganache center and topped with a Baileys Irish Cream frosting.

Green Bean Fries A couple of weeks ago I was emailed by a reader to try Green Bean Fries, like the ones at T.G.I. Friday’s. So I went to the source and tried them. I served the green bean fries with a side of ranch dressing. Green Bean Fries 1 pound green beans1 cup flour1 egg1/2 cup milk2 cups panko bread crumbs2 tsp garlic powder2 tsp Hungarian paprika1 tsp onion powderKosher saltpepper Rinse and then trim off the ends of the green beans by snapping the ends off. Fill a medium/large pan with a couple of inches of water and place the pan over high heat on the stove . When the time is up drain the beans and place them into a bowl of ice cold water. Next set up three dishes for the breading process. In the first dish add the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and a pinch of salt and pepper. Take a few of the green beans from the water with your left hand and quickly shake them to remove most of the water. Preheat your deep fryer to 350 degrees.

Limber de Coco (Coconut Cream Popsicles) Limber de Coco In every neighborhood in Puerto Rico there is an old lady that will sell you limber for 50 cents, back in my day it was 25 cents. Usually she will come out in a “bata” or mu-mu with curlers in her hair. I remember when I was a little girl there was this lady that lived down the street and sold limber in 5 different flavors, coconut was my favorite. Today was a definitely hot and hubby spent most of his day outside while I was in the kitchen. Hubby LOVES I mean LOVES coconut, I think he may have been deserted on an island in a past life and lived off of coconuts. Mmmmmm they are so delicious, great to have in the freezer for your kids or your hot Hubby…..you know because he has been out in the sun all day….. literally he is hot. Limber de Coco 1/2 can evaporated milk 1/2 can coconut milk 1/4 cup sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg yolk Cinammon to taste 1/2 cup of shredded coconut Directions Mix evaporated milk, coconut milk, sugar, vanilla, egg yolk and cinnamon in a bowl.

Cakepops With The Babycakes Cake Pop Maker – And A Babycakes Cakepop Maker Giveaway! One of my Mother’s Day gifts this year was the Babycakes Cake Pop Maker. I will admit, my first thought was “I bet this won’t work”. Cake pops require baking and destroying a cake, mushing it with frosting, and forming all of the pops by hand. It just won’t work if you don’t do it the way Bakeralla does it. I thought the cake pops would be dry, they will fall off the stick and probably won’t even taste good. It will be yet another kitchen gadget that will collect dust. While I had my doubts, I also have to admit that I don’t LOVE the traditional cake pops (please don’t judge me!). I am very happy to report that I was extremely impressed with the Babycakes Cake Pop Maker. My cake pop maker (which was purchased at Kohl’s – with coupons and sales you can score a great deal on one) came with the machine, sticks, a fork, a syringe for fillings and a cake pop stand. Whenever I need to fill a bag like this, I use a heavy mug to hold the bag for me while I scoop in the frosting or batter.

Alicia’s Awesome Crab Rangoon I invented this recipe many years ago… when I was in high school. I loved eating crab rangoon at Asian restaurants, and of course there were none of those in my hometown of under 1,000. Like a lot of recipes I come up with, this one was invented out of necessity. And it was awesome . Thus, I christened it: Alicia’s Awesome Crab Rangoon. I’ve only tweaked it a little here and there, and it just gets better every time. Since the crab in the filling is already cooked, I’ve even made the filling and served it as crab dip. You can also make these ahead of time and freeze them uncooked. Here’s the details… And here’s the recipe… Alicia’s Awesome Crab Rangoon 1 12 oz package imitation crab meat (leg or flake style), chopped 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice 2 green onions, chopped wonton wrappers Mix together all ingredients except wontons. Makes about 30 rangoon, or 2 cups of filling.

Homemade Soft Pretzel Bites Homemade Soft Pretzel Bites On Fridays, I teach cooking classes to two kids in our neighborhood. They are pretty knowledgeable-so my job is easy:) I think it is fantastic that they want to learn how to cook at such a young age-they are in the 3rd and 4th grade. Since we don’t have any kiddos yet, I am glad I get to work with these kids. We have a great time in the kitchen. On Friday we made homemade soft pretzels, the traditional salty ones and cinnamon and sugar pretzels. For fun, we also made pretzel bites. everyone loved these. Is everyone ready for the big game? Buffalo Hot Wings-these are Josh’s all time favorite. My good friend Gaby, from What’s Gaby Cooking, made Pulled Pork Sliders for the big game. Homemade Soft Pretzel Bites Yield: A lot!
