NunatsiaqOnline Oceania Etymology[edit] The term was coined as Océanie ca. 1812 by geographer Conrad Malte-Brun.[6] The word Océanie is a French language word derived from the Greek word ὠκεανός (ōkeanós), ocean. Definitions[edit] Map of Oceania Physiography[edit] Biogeography[edit] Biogeographically, Oceania is used as a synonym for either the Australasian ecozone (Wallacea and Australasia) or the Pacific ecozone (Melanesia, Polynesia, and Micronesia apart either from New Zealand[11] or from mainland New Guinea[12]). Ecogeography[edit] Oceania is one of eight terrestrial ecozones, which constitute the major ecological regions of the planet. Geopolitics[edit] In the geopolitical conception used by the United Nations, International Olympic Committee, and many atlases, Oceania includes Australia and the nations of the Pacific from Papua New Guinea east, but not the Malay Archipelago or Indonesian New Guinea.[17][18][19] Other definitions[edit] Satellite image of Oceania Ethno-cultural definition of Oceania History[edit]

lecourrier Northern News Services Northwest Territories / Nunavut Canada Adventures of a Gringa: The Incredible Tale of Zé Peixe Sometimes, the Brazilian media likes to romanticize poverty under the pretext of "living more simply," which I find irritating, but I couldn't resist the incredibly charming tale of Zé Peixe, known by the gringos as Joe Fish. Zé Peixe, age 82, was born as José Martins Ribeiro Nunes in Aracaju, Sergipe. He learned how to swim very young, and soon gained the nickname Zé Peixe for his swimming skills. At 5'2, 116 pounds, Zé Peixe has stayed fit by never drinking or smoking and swimming every day. He lives in one of the oldest houses in Aracaju, where he was born and where he and his family have lived for three generations. Zé gets on the ship to navigate it safely out of port, and once he's done, he leaps from a height of a five-story building, and sometimes as much as 130 feet high into the water below, and then swims back to shore, which takes between 2 and 4 hours, an average of over 6 miles a day. He's also known for his heroism.

Home 20-year-old man dies in Cote des Neiges shooting MONTREAL - A man died overnight after being shot in the head in a Cote des Neiges apartment Monday evening, and police say they have no suspects or possible motives for the city's 23rd homicide of the year. Neighbouring residents of the apartment building at 5775 Côte des Neiges Rd. identified the victim as Rakib Ullah, a 20-year-old man whom police say was of Bangladeshi origin. Ullah was brought over to the Jewish General Hospital across the street after the shooting in the apartment at around 9 p.m. Monday evening, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Another man who lives in the building witnessed Ullah being transported to the hospital from his balcony, and rushed down to see if he could help. "I was actually on my balcony, just looking over the street and I saw two men carrying a third one that looked in bad shape, maybe unconscious across the street," Khashayar Esfahani, a medical student, told CTV Montreal's Aphrodite Salas. "What's the reason?"

City of Barrie Man, 20, shot to death in Côte des Neiges By Joel Goldenberg A 20-year-old man was shot to death 9:05 p.m. Monday in a Côte des Neiges apartment building, at 5775 Côte des Neiges Road between Ellendale and Côte Ste. Catherine — across from the Jewish General Hospital. The victim died early Tuesday morning after being shot in the head. This is the 23rd homicide in Montreal this year. “It’s too early to talk about a motive,” Lapointe said. After the shooting, and as of Tuesday morning, Côte des Neiges Road was closed to traffic while police investigated the scene. Just two days before, on Saturday night, a man was killed further west in NDG.
