Der Westhof in Dübendorf bietet Spielräume für Aneignung - baudokumentation.ch Dass das Gebäude auch an dieser Stelle «nicht zu Ende gebaut» wirkt, spielt den gestalterischen Absichten der Architekt*innen zu: Sie haben eine Umgebung entworfen, in der sich die Bewohner*innen entfalten können, sofern sie das möchten. Folgerichtig wurde ein Teil des Baubudgets zurückgehalten und den Anwohner*innen zur Ausgestaltung zur Verfügung gestellt. Diese haben sich in einem «Hofrat» organisiert und beispielsweise Nisthilfen für Vögel gezimmert, die in der gesamten Siedlung verteilt sind, und kümmern sich um den Gemeinschaftsgarten, der westlich vor dem Gebäude liegt. Conen Sigl haben es verstanden, die Siedlung einladend und nahbar zu gestalten. Stehen Besuchende beispielsweise in der Mitte des Hofs, erscheint die Traufhöhe des Hauptbaus durch den Setback niedriger, als sie tatsächlich ist. Dem Volumen wird durch diesen Kunstgriff raffiniert seine Massivität genommen und auf einen menschlicheren Massstab heruntergebrochen.
Die Lyse-Lotte in Basel zelebriert die Vielfalt - baudokumentation.ch «Die Lyse-Lotte ist ein Haus mit vielen spezifischen Situationen. Jede Ecke, jede Fassade hat ihre eigene Ausprägung bekommen», schwärmte ein Bewohner, auf den wir bei der Besichtigung des Hauses im Herbst trafen. Diese anerkennende Beschreibung freute die Architekt*innen, denn sie wollten mit dem Entwurf den unterschiedlichen Bedürfnissen der Bewohner*innen einen möglichst idealen Raum geben und die angestrebte Diversität zudem durch die Gestaltung auch nach aussen transportieren. Im Erd- und 1. Autor*innen und Filmemacher*innen nutzen eine Technik, die man «kill your darlings» nennt. Man kann die Erscheinung der Lyse-Lotte – und zwar in einem äusserst positiven Sinne – als Kompromiss-Architektur bezeichnen. Um die Kosten im Rahmen zu halten, hat das Haus zudem nur ein Treppenhaus.
