IN A RUSH? FORGET THE BRUSH!

IN A RUSH? FORGET THE BRUSH!
photos: Angela Kohler + thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess In a world where we can’t stop running late, the fun bun is probably the quickest way from A to Chic. This look comes in über-handy when you wake up late and you’re rushing out the door (or even if you have plenty of time). Step 1: If your hair is straight, use a 1″ curling iron to curl everything under. Step 2: Flip your hair over and gather everything into a ponytail on top of you head, securing it with an elastic ponytail holder. Step 3: On the last time around with the ponytail holder, only pull the ponytail through half way. Step 4: Take the loop you’ve created and spread it out. Step 5: Take the tail end and wrap it around the ponytail base. Step 6: Pin the end of the ponytail to the base using a couple of hair pins/bobby pins. Step 7: Gently pull on pieces and then pin them. Step 8: Spray a veil of medium hold hairspray all over. Enjoy the fun bun! XX Kristin Ess Related posts:

Sweet twist and pin variation This is another of my favourite twist and pin updos. It’s deceptively simple to do and looks both sweet and stylish. Like the French roll twist and pin, this is a great hairstyle for when you are don’t have time to dry your hair. Hair product tips Starting with wet hair? Step by step Part your hair on the side.Take a small section of hair at the left behind your ear and twist and pin on your neckline.Do the same twist and pin behind your right ear and pin on your neckline. Then separate the rest of your hair into equal sections and repeat, twisting into little buns and pinning on the nape of your neck. Through many attempts I found that if you do the left and right first, it’s easier to keep a straight line. As always I recommend using good hair pins in the same colour as your hair. Related posts:

Messy bun tutorial (Coat by French Connection) After this post, I got a few requests for a “messy bun” hair tutorial! My boyfriend laughed when I told him that I needed help photographing it. It is a bit unintuitive – a process for making your hair “messier.” That said, this method will probably have to be tailored to fit your individual hair type; it even took me a few tries to photograph and post this tutorial properly, as sometimes it turns out better than others. Nonetheless, I thought I’d oblige those who asked! (Crew neck sweater by J.Crew) FYI, this hairstyle is considerably more difficult on freshly-cleaned, slick hair – it’s much easier to style if it’s a little dirty. Now on to the tutorial! More in-depth explanation: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. I feel like I should rename this blog to “Hairstyles for lazy people and art students”, because this is seriously the PERFECT way to wear your hair if you are like me and don’t wash your hair daily. The Simple Gibson Tuck @ @ Sara Lynn Paige PhotographySara Lynn Paige Photography I’ve received a lot of compliments on this easy rendition of the once popular Edwardian hairstyle, and I keep thinking to myself that Victorian is in right now and I should share this simple style. But it wasn’t until a make up artist stopped me in a coffee shop in Traverse City asking me how that I finally put my foot down. As soon as I get back from Ireland, I thought. Well today it’s snowing up a storm outside and I don’t have everything I need to bake the muffins I wanted, so here we are! These photos aren’t the greatest display of the Simple Gibson because I didn’t have a mirror and I’m SO picky that I wanted the photos of the hair to match the video, so I took them right after the video. The look is a lot cleaner when you have a mirror. What You Need ★ comb ★ hair tie (it doesn’t really matter what color) ★ bobby pins ★ roller (optional) What You Do Pull your hair into a ponytail. Using A Roller Using a roller instead of your finger is also an option.

CHALK IT UP photos: Kristin Ess, post designed by Kristin Ess Last week, we were shooting Lauren’s collection for Kohl’s and at the end of the day, we got our hands on some colorful soft chalks. How can a girl resist when there are pinks + purples involved?? Lauren’s pink cotton candy bun was pretty cute! As you may know, hair chalking has been around for a little while now and it’s a great way to temporarily add color to your locks. Twist the hair as you chalk. Try doing 2 colors on one strand! The best part about chalking is styling it. The colors we used for this post were:
