What they didn't teach you about the first Thanksgiving in school
The story of the first Thanksgiving, as told to American children, goes something like this: When the Pilgrims first made it to Plymouth Rock, they suffered through a desperate winter and had great difficulty surviving. But eventually, and with the help of Squanto the friendly Indian, they learned how to grow food. Finally, despite mistrust on both sides, the Pilgrims and Indians ended up making peace and eventually sharing a feast together, which we commemorate today on Thanksgiving. This story isn't exactly inaccurate. In his fascinating book 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus, journalist Charles Mann reviewed much scientific and historical research that cumulatively upended several long-held American beliefs of what the "New World" was like before Europeans arrived. 1) It wasn't just the Pilgrims who were weak — the Wampanoag had recently been decimated by disease A 1754 depiction of Massasoit, sachem of the Wampanoag confederation, visiting the Plymouth Colony.

Ireland - the facts... and myths!
Ireland is divided into thirty two counties, but it has two main parts: the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The north, also known as Ulster, is part of the United Kingdom (so its currency is the pound) and its capital is Belfast. However, the republic (or Eire) is independent, and its capital is Dublin. Ireland is the third largest island in Europe, with a population of around 6.5 million! Popular symbols of Ireland include the harp, the Celtic cross and the shamrock. A popular piece of jewellery in Ireland is the claddagh ring, which comes with an interesting story! Ireland is a wonderful country, and if you come to visit, you will meet many friendly people who love to sing songs and dance, and they will tell you lots of stories like the legend of the claddagh ring…so what are you waiting for?!

Canada - The Tale of the Inuit and Their Land Update Required To play the media you will need to either update your browser to a recent version or update your Flash plugin. Canada - The Tale of the Inuit and Their Land Inuit Art on display in Jordan, Ontario The Inuits belonged to nomadic tribes that moved over large arctic areas, hunting caribou, seals, fish and polar bears. During the winter, they dug themselves into snow and earth, using driftwood covered with turf as roofs, in order to avoid freezing to death. For clothing they used whatever nature had to offer - polar bear skin or caribou fur. Sometimes they build igloos as temporary quarters, and in order to catch seals they make a hole in the ice and wait for a seal to come up for air. Today, most Inuit live in villages or towns. Iqaluit was chosen as the capital city of the Nunavut Territory and is Canada's northernmost capital and fastest-growing community. Below, you find a link to the Inuit version of Amazing Grace. St. Patrick's Day

Nevertheless, a large portion of the population still suffers from high levels of poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition. A Pluralistic, Multilingual and Multi-ethnic Society Four major world religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism originated in India. Commercial and Cultural Wealth Home to a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, India has been admired for its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Independence India India became an independent nation in 1947, after a series of widespread, non-violent protests lead by Mahatma Gandhi, came to a successful end. Today
