Google+ Strategy: 5 Tips to Help Marketers Get Ready for Brand Pages With 10 million confirmed users of Google+, and comScore reporting there were 20 million visitors to Google’s new social platform during its first 21 weeks of existence, it’s safe to say from a pure numbers perspective that Google+ is off to a hot start. Brands, after seeing the potential on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, are ready to jump into the Google+ pool, but there’s a problem: the lifeguards at Google aren’t ready for them – and neither is the platform. Despite a slew of stories across the web that reported Google+ business pages would be coming later (though a few hundred brands would be allowed as part of a pilot Google+ program, including Ford), some brands jumped on the platform anyway, and, as promised, Google began shutting down many of these accounts. Naturally, this being the Internet, a flood of whining and grandstanding followed. How social interaction and teamwork led to human intelligence Scientists have discovered proof that the evolution of intelligence and larger brain sizes can be driven by cooperation and teamwork, shedding new light on the origins of what it means to be human. The study appears online in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B and was led by scientists at Trinity College Dublin: PhD student, Luke McNally and Assistant Professor Dr Andrew Jackson at the School of Natural Sciences in collaboration with Dr Sam Brown of the University of Edinburgh. The researchers constructed computer models of artificial organisms, endowed with artificial brains, which played each other in classic games, such as the 'Prisoner's Dilemma', that encapsulate human social interaction. They used 50 simple brains, each with up to 10 internal processing and 10 associated memory nodes. The social strategies that emerge spontaneously in these bigger, more intelligent brains show complex memory and decision making.

Radical Sharing Works: This Guy Lets the World Use His Starbucks Card for Free (UPDATED) - Business Download this image to your phone, take it to Starbucks and scan it at the cash register: It'll get you a free coffee. It's part of a radical experiment in sharing that's teaching us something about mobile money in the process. "It's been extremely uplifting," Jonathan Stark tells GOOD. About one month ago, Stark posted the barcode image for his personal Starbucks card online, for anyone to use. Surprisingly, it still has money on it. Stark was researching broadcast mobile currency—how to transfer money or pay for goods with your phone. On July 7th, he loaded $30 onto his card and posted the image for his friends to use. But this time, the money didn't vanish. And since then, it's become an experiment in anonymous collective sharing. "Overall it's working," he says. As of about 11 a.m. "I would have thought the ratio would be more like 10 to 1," drinkers to donors, a pleasantly surprised Stark says. That's partly because of a few built in incentives that help this experiment along.
