Open Letter to Julien Blanc - HandbagMafiaHandbagMafia If you have thus far managed not to hear about this, you might want to read a summary here of what went on so you see why I’m writing this. Dear Julien, By now, I imagine you’re back home after your less than successful Australian Tour and subsequent booting out of the country. The thing is, here is Australia, we are far from perfect when it comes to any number of things but what you will have discovered is that we have a rather powerful feminist community. 2015 has three Friday the 13ths. The First Woman Photographer - Anna Atkins - Films not dead. - F.N.D Anna Atkins is said to had been the first woman to create a photograph. Initially she was trained as an English Botanist and discovered photography as a means to document botanical specimens for a scientific reference book, entitled ‘British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions’. This book subsequently became considered to be the first book to demonstrate light-senstive materials in a publication. As well as this, Aktin’s decided to use the Cyanotype process further by printing her hand-written text and illustrations through the means of this photographic process rather than using traditional letter pressing. In 1843 Atkins printed and published Part I of ‘British Algae’, which in turn established photography as an accurate medium for scientific illustration. Anna Atkins was born in Tunbridge, Kent, England in 1799.

How to Start a Gratitude Practice and Change Your Life “When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” -Lao Tzu Somewhere in the distant past, out here in New Zealand, I recall someone saying to me “Be grateful for small mercies.” Back in the 1950s, when I was a small girl, that meant being grateful for the simple things that made up the better part of my life. As I grew, I forgot that piece of advice that someone, probably my beautiful grandmother, gave me way back then.
