Tune in to a discussion of Pearl Jam's Ten w/me & Marco Collins | Guerrilla Candy – Posted on August 22, 2012Posted in: News, Seattle Icons by The folks at Jet City Stream started a new weekly feature last week called Seattle Classics. During the weekly spot DJ Marco Collins spins a classic Seattle record and brings in a notable guest to help co-host and curate the spinning of the album. Last week, for the premiere edition, author Charles R. Cross curated Jimi Hendrix’s Are You Experienced? For this week’s edition, which airs today at 3:30 p.m. over here, Marco asked me to curate a playthrough of Pearl Jam’s debut record Ten. I am currently quite giddy about the broadcast and I’m not quite sure how it will go. I am honored to be asked and it’s quite a thrill to get to talk about my favorite record of all time with Marco, who himself is quite an iconic figure in local music. New Age Meditative Singers Karunesh and Deva Premal I don’t know if you chant but there is something about the Buddhist way of meditation that has healing powers and many people swear by it. If you have Buddhist friends, they will often “chant for you” to wish you well or help you through a roadblock in your life – a truly wonderful concept that really works, just like our “traditional” prayers. Chanting relies on the repetition of mantras, often thousands of times, to elevate the person chanting into a meditative state. If done alone, this can be tough, especially with distracting noises around so that many people meditating will chant along with popular singers. Two of those New Age singers producing wonderful meditative music are Deva Premal and Karunesh. Though both singers are independent artists, apart from the type of music they make they have one more thing in common: their German roots. Watch: The Grizzled Might's Block Party set | Guerrilla Candy – Posted on July 25, 2012Posted in: CHBP '12, Videos by If you read any of my coverage of last weekend’s Capitol Hill Block Party coverage you’ll know that I ended up “discovering” several great local bands. I put discovering is in quotes because most of my discoveries were bands that have been around for a little while that I either didn’t pay attention to (Feet) or had no idea existed (Walking Papers). The Grizzled Might fall into the former category as I had heard their name quite a bit over the past year or so but never had an opportunity to see them live and didn’t take it upon myself to seek out their music.

s Music Composition and Sound Creation Recently, I wrote about Finding Musical Inspiration…. what it is that moves me to compose my songs. In truth, there are many influences on my songwriting. My own music composition is different than that of other new age vocalists because I’m involved in all stages of production. Not only do I sing, compose and play, but I am a professional sound engineer. Marcome’s Music Composition is like no other! I truly believe that listening to music – enjoying music – is a personal experience. Music is a personal experience (image from Richard0 on Flickr) My music creation comes from deep within my soul. When you listen to my cds, you’ll hear my love for life, my optimism and my generally positive attitude. I once described the way I experience and convey music this way: “Music at its best is a gift! My core beliefs include unconditional love – of others and of yourself – which can lead to both self-autonomy and emotional autonomy. The River of Life is a great example of the finished process:

Recap: Capitol Hill Block Party Day 1 | Guerrilla Candy by Guerrilla Candy's spot at Capitol Hill Block Party's Blogger Lounge The first day of Capitol Hill Block Party is in the books. As usual the festival had plenty to offer with an almost overwhelming number of bands spread across six stages (eight if you count the sets that happened at Sole Repair and Havana) and there was plenty of local goodness to be experienced in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Block Party’s opening day wasn’t as crowded as it has been previously and I’m not sure why. Headliners Fitz and the Tantrums delivered two sets, the first was a KEXP session at The Barboza around 5:30 and the second happened about five hours later on the main stage. Doomtree It was my first time visiting The Barboza and my initial impressions left me really liking the place. Jet City Stream offered up a session with The Grizzled Mighty, a band that quickly became my new favorite local rock group. The Grizzled Mighty

The 6 Most Insanely Huge Musical Instruments Humanity became great for two reasons: our ability to create beauty through art, and our urge to build increasingly huge, terrifying gadgets. It only makes sense that these two impulses would converge in amazing, if largely useless, ways. That's how we wind up with huge and insane musical instruments like ... #6. 20 Insanely Great Fleetwood Mac Songs - NME Blogs With 17 studio albums, more cast changes than the Sugababes and a career spanning almost fifty years, there's no denying the impact Fleetwood Mac have had on the musical world. From the forthcoming indie tribute album, 'Just Tell Me That You Want Me', featuring Best Coast and Lykke Li, to the (oh dear) 'Rumours' episode of Glee, it's clear that the Mac are having a bit of a moment. And with the news that the classic line-up (minus Christine McVie) are reuniting for a tour, we gathered together our top twenty Fleetwood Mac songs. 20'Save Me' With Lindsey Buckingham gone, Fleetwood Mac roped in new members Billy Burnette and Rick Vito for 1990’s ‘Behind The Mask’. 19'Big Love' Lindsey Buckingham was originally going to use ‘Big Love’ for his third solo album, but instead the track found its way to ‘Tango In The Night’. 18'Family Man' A tropical track from ‘Tango In The Night’ that sees Lindsey Buckingham channel a futuristic mix of Peter Gabriel and Friendly Fires’ Ed McFarlane. 16'Tusk'
