Bans on materials going to landfill, increased costs garbage disposal, Stewardship Ontario , and the Waste Diversion Act requiring 60% waste diversion by the year 2008, causes concern for the amount of waste produced on campus. The University has achieved 38% reduction in waste, even though the student population, the number of students staying in residence, and the number of buildings have increased. Recycling, composting, changing buying habits, and reducing waste provides the perfect setting for students to study and investigate potential solutions for the University to reduce its waste and operating costs.
