DRBD:What is DRBD Doceri v. Splashtop Revisited | Wayland High School's One-to-One iPad Pilot March 29, 2013 edehoratius Apps, Classroom Use, Organization / Efficiency My history with digital annotations is a bit idiosyncratic. I started with a Promethean Board, then got slates for the Promethean Board, then came the iPad with first Doceri and then Splashtop, and now I have an Eno board. I never committed to any of them because none of them were entirely satisfying. Doceri has emerged as reliable, versatile, and efficient. Doceri’s strength is in its response-to-contact time. So Doceri it is for me. Like this: Like Loading...

Code
Managing iOS Devices with Apple Configurator My traditional interpretation of Apple’s vision on how iOS devices are used is that everyone has an AppleID. That AppleID enables them to access their apps from any iOS device they own or Mac that they own. That AppleID enables them to access mail, contacts, calendars and even files through iCloud. That AppleID also allows users to remotely wipe their device through Find iPhone and track their friends iOS devices (as in social networking via breadcrumb tracking) through Find Friends. All of this “Just Works” in a consumer sense. Over the years, Apple has added tools for centralized control of devices. To me, there are 3 classes of management tools for iOS. Mobile Device Management Over the Air tools, such as Profile Manager, allow for Mobile Device Management (MDM) without cradling, or syncing a devices. Note: While we use the term push, the user has to accept all App installations on the device. For large environments, MDM is a must as it allows for centralized command and control.

Instead of throwing it out or selling it for a fraction of its original value, what if you could get some more use out of the device by turning it into an AirPlay streaming box? AirFloat is an open source tweak that’s been in development for a while, but hasn’t been released on Cydia until now. To enable AirFloat, all you need to do is install it from Cydia and launch the AirFloat server app from the springboard. I’m very impressed with how well the tweak works when streaming music from my iPhone 4 to my 3rd generation iPad (and vice versa). Airfloat backgrounds like any other music player AirFloat is an incredible jailbreak app and is only improved by the fact it’s available for free in the BigBoss repository on Cydia. What do you think of AirFloat?

AirPlay without Apple (other than Apple TV) » EdTech at OWU I got a chance today to try out a couple of devices with the new Apple TV set up in our conference room. Since my MacBook Pro is too old to support screen mirroring, I wanted to see what options are available for my Android phone and my Windows laptop… The ZappoTV app for Android worked as promised. It allowed me to send a number of items–media from my droid gallery, YouTube, Flickr, ShoutCast (although I couldn’t find OWU Radio,) and more to the Apple TV. It was noticeably laggy at times and often gave an annoying message on my phone screen that it was waiting for the device, which prevented me from selecting anything until it cleared. It was not screen mirroring and it did not allow broadcasting of documents or other apps. For Windows and older Macs, AirParrot offers a free trial for 20 minutes. So if you don’t have a second generation (or older) iPad or a recent MacBook Pro–or neither–there are still some options to use AirPlay through Apple TV, they’re just not optimal at this time.
5 Critical Mistakes Schools Make With iPads (And How To Correct Them) Over the last few years K-12 schools and districts across the country have been investing heavily in iPads for classroom use . EdTechTeacher has been leading iPad professional development at many of these schools and we’ve seen firsthand how they approach iPad integration. While we’ve witnessed many effective approaches to incorporating iPads successfully in the classroom, we’re struck by the common mistakes many schools are making with iPads, mistakes that are in some cases crippling the success of these initiatives. 1) Focusing on content apps The most common mistake teachers make with iPads is focusing on subject-specific apps. It simply didn’t occur to him use the VoiceThread app to record his students speaking Latin, or perhaps create a collaborative discussion of Cicero. At our iPads in the Classroom summer workshop at Harvard University we spend three full days with teachers actively exploring effective iPad integration tools and strategies. It doesn’t. Focusing on iPad-versus.
6 Apps to Turn Your iPad Into a Productive Business Tool So you’ve got your new iPad and you’re starting to figure out which apps are going to be useful, which are going to be fun and which are going to be totally pointless. You’ve probably had a load of recommendations from friends as to which games you can download to help you waste the most time and which apps are going to help you grow in your personal life. But if you’re anything like me and using your iPad at work then there are a whole host of business and productivity apps out there…too many, in fact. This makes figuring out which ones are actually worthwhile a bit of a trial and error process, not to mention time consuming and also costly if you are spending money on apps that don’t live up to expectations. 1.
