The Most Brilliantly Pointless Street Flyers The hand-posted flyer is perhaps the cheapest way to spread the word about lost dogs, found cats, and creepy looking men offering low-cost guitar lessons. But most of the time, those flyers serve as nothing more than reading material for people waiting to get into a bathroom or on a bus. The flyers collected here acknowledge this reality, and they respond by trying to do nothing more than entertain whatever pair of eyes happen to be aimed in their direction. The long walk. And then some. For reasons unknown, last summer I had decided that a good way to spend a Saturday would be to take a leisurely stroll up the Oxford canal. Why, I thought, I'm certain if I pushed myself I could make it all the way from Banbury to Oxford. This was clearly an excellent idea. I did the maths. After all I had in my possession my brand new Sony Ericsson X10 mini super phone, with maps, and tracking and sat nav and wot nots. It started off pretty innocently; the day was pleasant enough and it wasn't too hot. However this did not deter me completely. As I set off after lunch, it did occur to me that being in the midst of the English countryside with a potentially dodgy tummy was not high on my list of things to do. By now my feet were hurting something awful. The first sign things were not good was when my battery finally died minutes after leaving the village. And it was now that the mind games began.

While this stairway in the heavens will not carry you all the way to the clouds, these sensational metal steps can certainly take you to the afterlife quite quickly should you miss a stair while out for a walk. While these stairs truly are attached to the exterior concrete wall of this towering Swiss skyscraper over ten stories off the ground, they are not actually used by anyone – they are, instead, the work of conceptual artists and architects (and now: spectacular staircase designers) Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann. Hanging high in the sky from the side of a building without so much as handrail, this staircase is dizzying just from the photos. Of course, no one knows it is ‘only art’ upon an initial sighting – clean, silver, metallic and set to connect two apparent doors, this sleek set of stairs looks like some crazy construction slip-up on when seen at first glance from street level far below.

7/15/11 Tiny Wisdom: Its Not All About You “When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.” -Miguel Ruiz Years back, in a group therapy circle, I met a man who provided an interesting definition for paranoia: It’s when you’re sitting in the bleachers at a football game, watching the players in a huddle, convinced they’re talking about you. While I’ve never suspected professional athletes were secretly laughing at me between plays, I have taken responsibility for a lot of things that likely had nothing to do with me. Just recently, I emailed a friend of mine from back home, only to question myself when days went by and she didn’t respond. I created all types of needless drama in my head about her opinion of me, when in all reality, it’s highly unlikely her slow response time had anything to do with me. Even if her actions did have something to do with me, it was pointless speculate about it. I don’t know if it’s possible to be immune to other people’s opinions and actions.
The Girl Who Loves to Levitate (14 photos) Natsumi Hayashi is a sweet-looking Japanese girl who, one day, decided to take self-portraits..of herself levitating. She can be spotted in and around Tokyo, equipped with her SLR and her self-timer. When she feels the moment strike, she presses the shutter button down and then, quite literally, "jumps" into place. What I love most about her shots is that they don't feel forced. When I asked her how others react to her jumping around Tokyo, here is a funny story that she shared.
