Biggest dog in the world: Meet George the 7ft long Great Dane... who's terrified of chihuahuas By Dave Nasser Created: 23:16 GMT, 22 July 2011 The first time we saw George, our beloved Great Dane, he was no more than a tiny, cowering ball of fuzzy fur. As my wife Christie opened the door of the crate he’d travelled in, he teetered to a standing position and looked out at us, moving his head slowly from side to side, taking in the wonder of it all. Finally, as if weighing us up and deciding we were acceptable, he tentatively pushed his little nose forward and gave Christie her first lick. Man's biggest friend: Devoted owner Dave Nasser with George, the world's biggest dog Though it didn’t really register, George’s paws were comically large even then. We certainly never dreamed he would one day become the biggest dog in the world, standing nearly 4ft high at the shoulder, 7ft long and weighing nearly 18 stone. He came into our lives in January 2006, just a few months after we had married and set up home in Arizona. Puppy love: A young George with Dave's wife Christie.

The Ark In Space: The Ducklings of Spring There is an old saying that no matter how long the winter lasts the spring is sure to follow. With the spring comes new life – a new generation takes its first tentative steps in to the world. Although people associate spring with many animals there is surely something about the sight of ducklings which lifts the heart and puts a hopeful smile on the face. Spring is nature's way of saying, Let's party! Young people are in a condition like permanent intoxication, because youth is sweet and they are growing. ~ Aristotle April prepares her green traffic light and the world thinks Go. You can only be young once. I'm youth, I'm joy, I'm a little bird that has broken out of the egg. It's spring fever. We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future. Science has never drummed up quite as effective a tranquilizing agent as a sunny spring day. April is a promise that May is bound to keep. I am not young enough to know everything. Spring has returned.

Shake It! How Dogs, Cats, Even Hummingbirds Keep Dry : Krulwich Wonders... They don't have towels. So when they get wet, what do they do? They shake themselves into a frenzy and the water flies off like this: I've seen dogs do this countless times, cats too, but Carli Davidson's photos make you appreciate how intense the shake must be to literally toss the water droplets outward. The animal will typically start by shaking its head side to side, twisting its neck, then the shaking motion moves through the rest of the body, ending with the tail. Does this hurt? But here's the news: This month, Victor Manuel Ortega-Jimenez and Robert Dudley at the University of California, Berkeley, published a paper describing how an animal weighing about an eighth of an ounce does the same thing. The third bird in this sequence looks like its head might break off. But Why Do They Do It? Here's why they do it. The surprise is that these hummingbirds can do this AND keep their sense of direction. Plus, they're keeping dry and getting where they need to go.

its Monday apparently nothing The 8 happiest dogs on YouTube There are few things in life happier than a happy dog. It doesn't matter if it's because they hear you pull into the driveway after work or if they find something particularly smelly to roll around on in the backyard; if a dog is happy you are going to know about it. You can see them just vibrate with pure unfiltered joy, as if they can't believe that life can be this good. Thanks to the ubiquity of cameras and YouTube, there are scores of videos of supremely happy canines just waiting to be found.
