DIY Shibori
Today marks HonestlyWTF’s four year anniversary. Four years! To celebrate, we’re revisiting the very first tutorial we ever featured on the site: shibori tie dye. Lauren and I first discovered shibori after discovering an old photo on the web.
DIY Door Knocker Belt
After discovering lion drawer pulls at the hardware store a few weeks ago, we were immediately reminded of this vintage Moschino jacket spotted on Jane of Sea of Shoes. They were obviously too amazing to pass up and we knew we had to incorporate the mini door knockers into a DIY. Luckily, we were able to track down the same lion head drawer pulls online so now you can join in on the fun! You’ll need: Start by placing the drawer pulls along the backside of the belt and place them to your liking.
DIY Bleach Tie Dye
Last summer, we were obsessed with shibori indigo tie dying. No, really . . . we just about dyed anything white in sight. So when Free People asked us to include a DIY in their guest blogger series, we knew a new tie dye project was absolutely in order. And as the weather is beginning to warm up, what better time than now to start experimenting with reverse tie dye using bleach! Black tees and tops: watch out!
DIY Color Block Moccasins
Our love of Minnatonka moccasins and obsession with Balenciaga‘s Fall 2010 shoes made this DIY we created for Foam Magazine a no brainer. With just a tube of Tulip Soft Fabric Paint, a pair of paintbrushes (one thin and one thick) and a pair of suede moccasins, you’ll be ready to make your own color block shoes. (Tulip Soft Fabric Paint is best paint to use, as it is highly opaque, flexible once it dries and great for suede.) To paint the tops of the moccasins, the fringe will have to be tucked under. Simply untie the bow, pull the suede strings out of all the holes (note how it is assembled), and fold the flap under.
DIY Box Braid Necklace
The moment we saw Phillip Lim‘s Box Braid Collar Necklace, we were immediately overcome with a wave of nostalgia. Our memories of a neon, plastic box braid lanyard was suddenly transformed into a sophisticated leather jewelry component. Honestly, brilliant!
DIY Bow Tie
A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated FNO by DIYing bow ties and neckties from scraps of denim at Madewell – because honestly, who isn’t borrowing a bit of inspiration from the boys this season? Today we’ll be showing you, who may have missed the event, how to DIY a bow tie with luxurious, Dolce & Gabbana-inspired velvet. Just B: B Bright: DIY color block pouch
Everywhere you look Celine pouches are somewhere to be found, lusted or dreamed of. I myself had a moment of weakness drooling over the leather pieces held together by thread and a zipper shown here. Also, where I found a least expensive alternative achieving the same look. When I saw a photo of a color block Celine pouch (pinned here) I knew that's what I wanted. One bright neon block on the bottom of my pouch.
