Doily Lantern

Doily Lantern
The lovely Sarah is back again this month with another fabulous DIY! This one is so simple and chic, I know you all are going to love it! Happy spring, readers! I have been so excited to share this month’s DIY project with you! It is an easy, affordable centerpiece idea that was inspired by Shannon South’s gorgeous upcycled Doily Lamp. Materials: 4-5 doilies per lamp (preferably round and about 5-6 inches in diameter, depending on the size you want the orb to be. ***Before you start, make sure to wash your doilies by hand with a mild soap and lukewarm water in the sink. Step 1: Take your rubber ball or balloon and place it in a small dish to keep it steady while you work. Step 2: Once you have the doilies arranged how you want them, pour some fabric stiffener onto the palate or wax paper. Step 3: Leave a small area open so that you can insert the LED tea light. Step 4: Let the doilies dry overnight to ensure that it is COMPLETELY dry before handling. Have fun and stay crafty! Share:

NWR: 70's Disco Party Even though this was a 1976 theme party, i think some of these DIY projects can be used for weddings or pre-wedding parties. I had a lot of fun planning this event (you can see pics of my past events in previous posts), not only cause it was for my husband, but it was also a challenge to do something "wow" with little to no budget. I used a lot of stuff that i had kicking around at home, and I had all these little square mirrors that were donated to me from a special effects shop, so i used them in a lot of my decor. You can also buy them in bulk on ebay or at the dollar store. - I made the STRINGS OF MIRROR by taping each end of the measured fishing wire to a flat surface (i used my dining table) and leaving a bit extra to tie it to the pipe or hang from the ceiling.- next lay the mirrors upside down centered under the string- add a dab of glue (i used a glue gun)- place another mirror on top before the glue dries- then repeat I made a deal with my friend for the cakes.

DIY Geodesic Disco-Ball Lamp Favorite beverages are a guilty pleasure some of us indulge in despite the ecological impact. This suspended light fixture may be the solution for all that repetitive waste, taking scrap modules and turns them slowly into something new and quite crafty. Tetra Pak drink boxes form the basis for this origamic, disco-ball-shaped homage by Ed Chew to Buckminster Fuller and his work on geodesic domes and other super-stable geometric structures. With rhythmic simplicity, a series of used boxes can be folded and converted into pentagonal and hexagonal pieces that slot together forming permeable spheres (or cylinders or other shapes). The resulting configurations work toward dispersing light from a central hanging, standing or wall-mounted source, while providing mutual stability without the need for adhesives or fasteners.

Home 5 Minuted DIY: Yarn Pom Poms There are a lot of tutorials available online for yarn pom poms, but I recently decided that I want to start posting my own takes on common craft how-tos here on Creature Comforts in order to make this space even more reflective of the things I love. I hope this and future DIYs will be helpful and enjoyable for you. Anyhow…after years of messing with plastic and cardboard pom pom making contraptions (and a lot of irritation in the process) I finally settled on a ridiculously simple method that I love and use all the time. I’ve added notes throughout the video that summarize the steps for those of you who are hearing impaired or need to watch with the sound off. BTW…this tutorial will come in handy for the DIY post I have created for you later today (and a special one I have scheduled for the 12th too).

Remember tomorrow is the last day to submit your DIY project. First place winner will receive $500 and second place winner a $100 gift certificate from Wendy Mink Jewelry. Click here for more details and how to enter. Good luck and Happy Friday! From Alexandra: This bouquet uses yarn scraps, old shirts of the groom’s (flannel and cotton button-down), an old tank top, a vintage knitting needle, some vintage lace, and old ribbon scrap. Most of these things can be purchased at Joann Fabric (joann.com), though I recommend going to your local yarn store to get nicer yarns (yarn.com also sells lots of nice stuff, and knitpicks.com has good prices.) Yarn pompoms: Using a pom pom maker tool, wrap the scrap yarn around both “arms” of the device, filling it up as much as possible. Fabric pompom: Use a soft stretchy jersey fabric, like a flimsy t-shirt.
