AT&T Launches Voice-Controlled U-verse Easy Remote App - Bonnie Cha - Product News In season five of “30 Rock,” Alec Baldwin’s character, Jack Donaghy, introduced a voice-controlled TV remote that — though hilarious — didn’t work too well. But maybe AT&T can get it right. Today, the company introduced a new mobile app that allows AT&T U-verse TV customers to operate their TVs via voice and gesture controls using iPhone or iPad. Available for free from the iTunes store, the U-verse Easy Remote App uses AT&T’s Watson speech-recognition technology to recognize and understand spoken words, and can even learn different accents and an individual’s speech patterns for better accuracy. With the technology, you’ll now be able to control your U-verse TV by giving simple voice commands such as channel up, replay, or record, or by saying the name of a TV show or channel number. You can also use touch gestures, such as swiping left or right or up and down to change channels and adjust volume. But the app wasn’t designed just for a nation of couch potatoes.

Report: Android fragmentation specs Despite developer concerns over the state of Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) open-source Android mobile operating system, the platform is not as fragmented as many believe, according to mobile app analytics firm Localytics. While significant differences in Android manufacturing partners, device form factors and OS builds do exist, Localytics states that 73 percent of all apps leveraging its analytics solution run a variant of Android 2.3, a.k.a. Gingerbread. Another 23 percent of user sessions run some flavor of Android 2.2/Froyo, meaning that developers targeting both OS builds can achieve 96 percent compatibility across the Android ecosystem. Forty-one percent of Android app sessions in the Localytics study originated on devices with 4.3-inch screens, followed by 4-inch screens at 22 percent, 3.2-inch models at 11 percent and 3.7-inch smartphones at 9 percent. The HTML5 test - How well does your browser support HTML5? Fetching App Store sales statistics from iTunes Connect into MySQL using AppDailySales | blog.sallarp.com It’s always interesting to see how well (or poorly) your app is performing in App Store and iTunes Connect has since the latest update provided much nicer interface to track this with graphs. The iTC Mobile app also provide the same graphs/information on the go. However, iTunes Connect falls short because daily statistics are only available for 14 days, and weekly statistics doesn’t stretch further than 13 weeks. Apple has a ton of apps (400.000+) on the App Store and downloads has already passed the one billion mark, I guess they just find it too expensive to store (or at least provide access) to that amount of data. But why o why can’t they just provide an API where we could easily download and store the statistics ourselves then? AppDailySales to the rescue! AppDailySales is a great open source python project that with very little effort logs in and downloads the statistics files from iTunes Connect for you. Loading statistics into MySQL 1. 2. 3. The rest can be left as is. 4. 5.

6 steps to making a more effective mobile app Is a mobile app more successful if it maximizes its user base or aims for a smaller, more dedicated fan base? As a developer, will you see a greater ROI charging upfront for your app, knowing that this will limit the number of potential app users? Or should you make your app free and offer in-app purchases, knowing that many users will never purchase any items in your app? Or is it best to offer an app for free and then begin charging later to gain greater exposure, or will this deter potential customers who may be reluctant to pay for an app that was once free? In short, what makes an app a success? The answer to that question, unfortunately, is not easy. Step 1: Branded apps vs. original content Peter Farago, vice president of marketing at mobile analytics firm Flurry, recommended that developers first ascertain what type of app they are creating. Step 2: Chose the right mobile operating system Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store has the greatest number of Apps. Farago disagrees on Android.

Viber CEO takes on carriers' over-the-top attack | Mobile World Congress - CNET Reviews - Aurora BARCELONA, Spain--Carriers love to bash companies like Skype and WhatsApp that provide services on top of their mobile networks at the Mobile World Congress trade show. But one thing was different this year: Viber Media founder and Chief Executive Talmon Marco entered the lion's den to defend the idea. Viber's free messaging service, which competes directly with carriers' own high-profit services for text- and multimedia-messaging services, is a prime example of the despised over-the-top (OTT) approach. Marco showed no remorse for sapping telco revenues and argued that users are just moving to where the innovative, useful services are taking place. "There's no difference between the SMS of 1993 and 2013," Marco said, whereas in the two years since its launch, Viber has added group messaging, delivery confirmation, indicators that the other person is typing, location sharing, and high-quality photos. "We delight our users with cool new features."

ASO (App Store Optimization) Is The New SEO, And Here’s A Tool To Do It What’s the hardest thing about building a successful mobile app? If you answered “building a mobile app,” you’re wrong. It’s getting your app found. With over 600,000+ iOS applications, and now some 450,000 on Android, the real challenge for developers is having their app surfaced higher than hundreds of other competitors in the app store search results. Doing this correctly involves ASO, or app store optimization. It’s basically SEO repurposed for mobile, and because we’re still in the early days of the mobile ecosystem, it’s simpler to optimize apps than webpages. But developers are often lacking knowledge, and especially tools, to help them out on this front. Don’t let the utility’s wordy, boring title fool you – this is a killer product for mobile developers. To use the tool, developers enter their app’s URL, and those from their competitors. Unfortunately, there is a drawback here. If you’re interested in testing out this new utility, a 30 day free trial is available. P.S.
