Whirl-it lampshade - free DIY tutorial We really needed a new lamp, and we´ve planned to make one for months. This week we finally got around to it. It takes a bit of different materials, but it´s really easy when you´ve started. We recommend making it outdoors, as it gets quite messy. We planned to make the lamp using the yarn Garnstudio Ice, but it ran out really quickly, and we had to improvise by using a thinner yarn to complete it. What we used One big, round balloon. How we did itGather all the materials.Put the yarn into the glue and mix properly. Fill the balloon to a desireable size. Hang it and start whirling. Whirl pretty tightly.

Yesterday, Anel and I painted a huge slab of wood in glossy bright yellow paint to create a new shelf/counter in our tiny Manhattan kitchen. We had some leftover paint so I asked him to paint my closet door the same color. Let’s hope I don’t hate it- I’ll know in about 8 hours when I get home from work tonight! Felting Project: A Rug! This is the most beautiful felt project we’ve seen. Strips of felt are wrapped around each other with hot glue to create this amazing swirled effect. What a great project for a snowed-in weekend and a movie marathon with the family. The kids could even help cut strips and decide on color combination while you operate the hot glue gun. Tissue Rosette Kissing Balls | The Idea Room *Update–Many of you have had questions about how to “twist” the paper. I have made a quick video showing you how. You can find the video for how to make tissue flowers here: How to Make Tissue Flowers Video Thanks everyone for all your sweet comments about my last Valentine’s day project…the “Be Mine” Framed Art. Many of you will remember that I have made these before and have them hanging in my daughter’s room. First off you will need a couple of rolls of tissue paper streamers. Start by cutting the paper into strips about 24 inches long. Now take your strip and start on one end and begin rolling it up between your fingers. After you have a few rolls, continue to roll it up but now twist the paper. Now just continue to roll and twist until you have reached the end of the strip. After you have a few rosettes made, start gluing {I used a glue gun} them onto a round styrofoam ball. On this particular rosette ball, I did not twist the paper. The fun thing is to just try different things.

betz white: Felt Ogee Ornament Tutorial I woke up this morning with an image in my head of a felt snowflake. So I asked my kids to make a few traditional fold and cut paper snowflakes for me before they left for school. I wanted to use them as templates for my idea. Instead, my 10 yr old showed me a 3D paper snowflake they had made in his art class. I loved the beauty and simplicity of it, so I changed my course! …it worked! Step 1: Cut one 6″x 6″ square of felt. Step 2: Using a straight edge and an Xacto knife, cut along the first line from the corner to about 1/4″ from the diagonal line. Repeat until all cuts have been made, keeping the felt intact at each corner on the diagonal line. Step 3: Lift the corners of the center square and hand stitch the ends together with matching thread. Step 4: Turn the piece over and lift the corners of the second square. Step 5: Continue turning the piece over, overlapping points and stitching until all 4 squares are stitched. This makes a large ornament, about 10″ in total length.
